Hi all new to do forum don't post much but need help with these 5x5 workout. Want to start it usually do 4 different exercises for my chest and they have 4 sets with 8-10 reps just using my chest for the exercise. So i know its 5x5 5 sets of 5 reps so say my max bench is 160 pounds completing 3-4 good reps. Would i start of on 40,70,90,110,120 and do 5 sets of 5 reps so therefore doing 25 reps on each set and then having 125 reps of different weights done at the end? Hope ye understand what im getting at. Any replies be great.

It would be far more benefital to lift 120lbs for 5 sets with 5 reps each. Doing 125 reps of the same exercise is just ridiculous, total overkill and totally defeats the purpose of doing 5x5 workouts. What you're doing there is a 25x5 workout

So say 5 reps of 40,70,90,110,120 so doing 25 reps altogether?

    No, as follows:

    40 x5
    70 x5
    90 x5
    110 x5
    120 5x5

    ..for 50 total reps.

    weight x reps

So 40lb for 5 reps, 70 for 5 reps etc etc.

    Then when you get to 120lb, 5(sets) x 5(reps)

    :)

A few warm up sets working up to your working weight, then 5*5 .
Next day add 2.5kg to your working weight
