Thoughts On Saabs?

Instead of putting money into my current car I'm thinking of just buying a new one (second half of course)
A Saab 93 is my favourite car (aesthetically), I just love them, I've wanted one for years.
Now, I'm seeing some really great Saabs for sale around the place and I was just wondering if it would be a good idea to avoid them due to Saab going bust i.e
Can you still get parts for them if needs be? (I've heard Opel/Vauxhall parts can be used?)

What's your general opinion on Saabs?

    Yay or nay?

they share engines & such yes, several have minor issues ( LED screen in the dash messing up... doesn't stop the car driving, but stil anoying ) others ( more the 9-5 i think ) gets oil sludge issues.

generally speaking... Go for a good clean Aero spec or better model, enjoy it and have no regrets their an amazing car to drive... basically what an Opel/Vauxhall Should be.

I would say go for it.

    I bought a 2005 Saab 93 1.8t about a month ago and love it. I did a fair bit of research into them before and also spoke to my brother's father in law who sold them for about 10 years. The main things he said;

-avoid the diesels as have a lot of issues
    -get full service history
-try to find one with low'ish mileage

He got me one with 40K miles on it and it's in mint condition.

There are no problems getting parts are a few UK places that specialise in Saab parts and are a few garages here that specialise in working on Saabs.

You get a lot of car for your money compared to a Beemer, Audi etc.

The turbo models need to be/have been meticulously maintained with frequent servicing and the correct oils.

Other then that, they suffer the same wear and tear as most other cars.

Parts shouldn't be a bother for the foreseeable future. Spare parts supplying is big business and Saabs are pretty common so I wouldn't be worried about that.

    I bought a 05 9-3 Arc S 1.9 TDI a little over three months ago. I absolutely love it. I moved from an S60.

The fuel consumption on the Saab is excellent (I got an auto), it's got a grand bit of poke and it's a pleasure to drive. It's done just over 7k since I got it. It needed a gearbox overhaul within the first week but the part was in within a few days and so was sorted out quickly. No issues since but I'm still learning the difference between diesels and petrol so I think it's probably due an oil change soon!

I have a 93 (which I have for sale sorry for the shameless plug!)

I think it's a great car. Only reason I have it for sale is that I a hoping to get an 08 ttiD.

Great spec compared to similar brands.

I get around 7.2l/100km on a mix of motor way city driving but mainly motor way

Parts/servicing are relatively cheap. Based on GM platform
