file encryption

I want to encrypt specific files, maybe the occasional folder.

Wondering if anyone knows a good program/ app for that ?

I'm aware of filevault but I don't really want to encrypt my whole disk - just the odd file here and there that will be stored here and there in different folders.

Anyone got a suggestion ?

Would be the easiest. I do not use it anymore but have used it before. I should actually get back to that and backing up more again.

It essentially creates a folder that acts like a passworded usb stick.

Similar to Truecrypt but I have not look into this in several months.

I prefer to avoid third party apps as much as I can. Safe as they may be I prefer to use the methods already available.

Yeah I can understand that also - but I use both windows and mac - I need the cross platform compatability!

I agree with you on that, I was only thinking the same thing when I was looking it up. I'd defo use it too if I was still using Windows.

That would be my long term option, if I actually acted on it.

Truecrypt is safe. As safe as a built in OSX way anyway. 3rd party apps are perfect depending on how they do things.
