    Hi,

Going to Magaluf in July and i heard a bit about Magaluf being anti Irish but nothing from anyone specific, its always a friend of a friend sort of thing. So has anyone actually had any hassle in Magaluf for being Irish, we're not the sort to go looking for trouble but just wondering would we get hassle for wearing a GAA jersey ( surprise surprise :) ) there.

PS Mods, i know there's a similiar thread but its 4 years old and seems to have a lot of speculation rather than anything concrete.

    Thanks

I was there briefly last year, no problems whatsoever but then again I wasn't a rowdy drunk singing rebel songs and willingly looking for trouble, so YMMV.

if you are asking would the Brits start on you for wearing a gaa jersey, then probably not. 90% of them wouldn't know what a gaa jersey looks like.

I have heard tell of Irish people getting into trouble in the 'English' parts of Majorca. This was from a Scot ex pat when I was in Bally Ponsa with the missus sailing. That said he seemed to indicate this was generally when someone had pointed out things like there was no such thing as 'real bisto gravy' or other such atrocities.

The problem, and I say this as a proud Englishman, is the English can't handle their drink and fights start over stupid crap.

All that said our skipper had been there years and told very few stories so I assume that means its not too much of an issue.

The main issue is going to be when you start getting a load of attention from some slapper English rose for being Irish and the English lads not liking the competition.

Only from the fashion police, though to be fair you are committing a serious offense.

Why do people wear GAA tops on holidays?

All i can say is dont believe the stories you are told about what happens to Irish people in Magaluf from somebody working in Santa Ponsa, stuff like ''getting there arms slit in the jacks'' and that.

If one were Scottish and showed up in certain resorts in a Celtic top one would get hassle. If one were Irish and showed up in the exact same gear .....probably more hassle. If you ever see Chelsea shirts worn anywhere south of Dunkirk....run very fast and don't open your mouth. GAA tops are nearly as naff as Chelsea tops. :D

The worst yobbo kip I ever saw was Malia in Crete but I heard even that has improved in recent years. You don't know what yobbos are where ....until you actually get there.

Its funny when I went to University in Liverpool the new Irish 1st years on day one would always go around the university in GAA jerseys. Was like look im Irish funny thing is 40% of the university was from Ireland so they just all looked silly.

Lived in Canada also and you always knew an irishman by his gaa jersey walking down the street.

I just try to blend in and not draw attention to myself

Nah, unless you act the prick there'd be no hassle. Most people on holidays couldn't care less unless there's lots of drink and egos involved.
