Are there many WIT students that commute from Kilkenny?

    Hi there

I am thinking of doing a degree at WIT that is on Thursdays 6pm-10pm. I have no problem getting there from Kilkenny by train, but no way of getting home after it by public transport.

Does anyone know how commonplace it is that people would commute? I'd be more than happy to split petrol costs for a lift back to Kilkenny.

Obviously I would not expect anyone to hang around for me, but if anyone was doing a course and finished at the same time and would be travelling back to Kilkenny City, I'd really aprreciate you getting in touch.

    Cheers in advance.:)

I've been commuting for the last two years: 1st year was Mon & Wed and 2nd was Tue & Thurs. Next semester is a flexible one for me so will rarely be down there. There a good chance considering all the courses - best chance is someone in the same class obviously because it might be hard to find out otherwise?

A fair few people I know commute, but ten o'clock finishing time on a Thursday is pretty late, they're all gone by half five in my class.

I didn't say it in my post but I was finishing at 10pm too, starting @5:15pm or 7pm depending.
Lots of the part-time courses run until late...

    Thanks guys

Good to see that the option may be there.

It is a difficult call to make... do I just take a gamble and hope for the best? The course doesn't start until September so have a while yet to work out what to do for the best.

    Many thanks.

I have sent in my application for the course. :D

If worst comes to worst I can always stay in a B&B Thursday nights and then get one of the early trains back to KK.

Can anyone recommend a B&B in the city centre? And also, how far is WIT from the train station to walk? Many thanks in advance.

If you need to get a B&B perhaps your best option would be somewhere along the Cork Road (which runs from the centre of town out to WIT). There are a number of B&B's along there and I'd imagine they may be a bit cheaper than in town. If it's a regular thing maybe you could negotiate a rate with the owner.

The train station is a good walk from the college. It's basically going from one end of town to the other. I'd imagine it would take at least 45 minutes to walk. You could just cross the bridge and get the bus from the station though. There are a few buses that go out to the college from the Bus Station/Quay.

Here's a Map showing WIT and the Train staion:

Many thanks for that, Johhny. I had no idea it was suck a trek.

I spoke to the college today and have an interview for next week sorted. I explained the dilemma re getting home after and was told that they will keep an eye out for other people doing the course from Kilkenny that would be driving.

it is not the end of the world if I have to stay at a B&B one night a week. Oviously I'd prefer not to, but I don't want the travel to put me off doing the course I really want to do.

Thanks for taking the time to post that, I appreciate it.

Id seriously think about getting a car. Get a 1 litre with a year a NCT for around 600 euro. Your insurance would be hardly anything under your parents name. prolly 500 euro or less depending on age and tax around 200 or less.
