The Ryanair website will be down for site maintenance from this Friday at 4pm to Sunday.

Anyone traveling over the weekend would need to book their flights, make any changes to them, check in online and print off their boarding passes before 4pm on Friday as they won't be able to access the site after then.

Thanks for that. Actually, I'm really surprised they'd want such a long outage as their website is key to their whole business. They surely would have test instances, parallel production instances etc. to allow them to do they necessary testing etc. so they can swap over a lot more quickly than that.

Hopefully their IT boffins will take the opportunity to get rid of that annoying captcha.

Agreed. 48 hours in an infinity for a website like that.

Will be interested to hear if they waive the airport check in fees for people who didn't know about the website being down. Seeing as its Ryanair, I doubt it.

Important to get the word out there. Heineken cup finals and Champions League finals are in that weekend.

Lots of people on the move across Europe.

They use it to prevent screenscraping by fare aggregators. They REALLY don't like other websites/travel agents redirecting to Ryanair.

For anyone yet to check in online.

The Ryanair website is closing for upgrading from Friday at 16.00 to Sunday 12.00. It won't be possible to check in online during this period.
Those checking in at the airport will still incur the usual charges.

For anyone intending to book a flight.

It will not be possible to book flights or make changes to existing bookings from 22.00 on Friday until 22.00 on Saturday.

    Email from Ryanair this morning:
"Online Check-in - Not available from 16:00 hrs on Fri. 18 May until 12:00 hrs. Sun. 20 May. Passengers travelling between these dates and times who are unable to check-in online can check-in at the airport and will not be charged the airport check-in fee." Wonders will never cease.

But I need to check in and print my boarding pass for my return flight before I leave - so a bit stuck now...

Really? Why? I just used skyscanner to find a flight. Would never have thought of looking up Ryanair's website because I thought they didn't fly to where I wanted to go, but then Skyscanner let me know about the price I could get with them. Why does Ryanair not like that ?

Maybe because you're not spending as long on their site as you might have if you searched on it? I'm sure they have done their research about time spent on a website equating to money spent on extras etc (hotels, car hire...).

Still though, as you say, surely it's a good thing if skyscanner sends some business their way.

Sorry I'm confused, what's stopping you from checking in now for both legs?

True. But it's not really Skyscanner that's their problem. It's the travel agencies like ebookers that they have a problem with. They buy tickets in bulk when they are really cheap and then sell them on a few months later at a higher price. Thus the consumer doesn't actually get the really low fare tickets. That's also why they jacked up the price of changing a name on a ticket to make it harder/ less economical for the likes of ebookers to carry out this practice. On the flip side though, it effects people that have legitimately made an error on their booking.

Speaking of the website. The captcha has been removed from the website for now.

You can't check in more than 15 days before a flight, so if you're away for more than 15 days you have to find an internet café or get someone reliable to print and post you the return portions.

With the extra two days where you can't do the check-in, some people will be caught out.

If the return flight was part of the same booking you're offered the option to check in for that too, even if it's more than 15 days.

I did it last year when checking in for holiday.

Really? I never knew that - would have saved me so much trouble.

I've done that before but didn't get the option this time. They might have changed the rules on that one.

Found out that 15 days means anything less than 16 days, so you can check in 16 days before your flight, provided the departure time has passed.

E.g. my return flight leaves at 12:15pm on 3rd June, so I can check in any time after 12:15pm on Friday 18th May (11:15am actually because of the time difference), which means I have a window of opportunity before the closure.
