Just heard that the 'hole in one' insurance part of the insurance most players pay with their club subs is no longer. It has been withdrawn due to far too many claims and questions being asked.

Anyone else hear this or is it complete BS?

Yes, I read that in the new terms and conditions which were posted up in our clubhouse. I commented on it in post #30 of the below
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056598701&page=2
which was replied to in post #33. It looks like some insurers still provide the €250 cover but others don't which is a worry if I ever did manage to hit that ace.

Sorry about that Dr C, I didn't follow that thread.

Guess it helps to read the small print when you renew your insurance ..... I hope Chartis get dumped big time as to just drop the cover is poor form in my book. They could have limited claims per club or person.

Maybe the clubs should take the initiative and put the pressure on by switching to AON as theres no way golfers can afford to splash out on a round of drinks these days and the bar will suffer as a result.

Never had the privilege of a hole in one but isnt it about time that this ridiculous practice was stopped. In my opinion NO ONE should be obliged to buy everyone in the place a drink just because they had the good fortune to score an ace.

I would agree that buying a round for everyone after getting a hole in one is outdated, but the problem is how to deal with it. If you throw the clubs in the car and go, then you are seen as being ignorant and disrespectful. If you go in and just buy a drink for your playing partners ...... what about your friends and then you will have the usual wind ups coming over to congratulate you when they dont even know your name. Its easy to say let them go to hell, but where do you draw the line ...... say the Captain comes over, do you offer him a drink and along comes any other officios in the vacinity.

I fully accept some people would have no problem walking away after getting a hole in one and ignore all in sundry, but not everyone is able to do that. I would prefer it if the club took the initiative and recommended that the practice of buying drinks for everyone after a hole in one cease following on from the insurance withdrawal. I doubt if that would happen as the bar taking would be effected as a result .................. its a no win situation (the insurance took the pressure off).
