    Hi all,

Apologies if this is a very stupid question. Just bought new tv - samsung ue40d5300. Its on saorview website as being approved. Bought in tesco.

Plugged in but still can't get digital channels. I'm hoping that this is just an aerial problem. Only analoge channels RTE 1, 2 and TG4

If it is on the approved list there is no way that it is not suitable?????
Just don't want to have wasted a load of money......

    Thanks

If it is approved it is most likely an aerial problem, IMO.

If you only have those 3 analogue channels & no Saorview, you're more than likely receiving from a mast that isn't being upgraded for Saorview.

Do you know which mast it is or can you give your location and preferably list the UHF channel nos. of the analogue channels?

Wouldn't know what mast it is - but it is Westport area Co. Mayo, and channels are 54, 58 and 64 (RTE 1, 2, TG4)

When you were doing the channel search, did you specify "digital" and not "analogue"?

Also, do you have and radio stations downloaded as these are all digital?

I have a 2 year old Samsung and had no trouble.

    Hope this helps.

Yes, specified digital. And don't have any radio channels

That mast won't be carrying Saorview, Castlebar is the recommended transmitter for that area afaik.

So does this mean just changing the direction of the aerial from where it pointing at the moment (Westport mast which isn't saorview) to Castlebar past (which is saorview)????

Should probably put it 'isn't planned to' carry Saorview, as they've already added 4 extra to the original list. Don't know what coverage is like in Westport area.

You might need a different aerial for Castlebar if the one you have is frequency grouped for the Westport channels.

This is the advice from Saorview regarding aerials - http://www.saorview.ie/make-the-switch/step-2-check-aerial/

Changing the direction of your existing aerial will depend on its grouping. You may have a Group C/D or a Wideband UHF aerial.

The Westport transmitter uses Group C/D frequencies while Castlebar uses Group A frequencies. If your aerial is Group C/D, a Group A or wideband aerial will be required for Castlebar.

If you still require the Westport analogue channels for a non Saorview TV or VCR in the house until Oct 24th a second aerial will be required for the Saorview channels from Castlebar.

Good for you, but we're trying to give the OP good advice here & if the aerial has to be realigned, it might as well be replaced by the correct type for the transmitter.

Also, the fact the Westport mast exists would seem to point to coverage deficiencies in the area, so it would be wise not to use half measures. OP might be lucky to get any signal.

found thread maybe of some help to the op http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=69789456
, @peter just giving my twopence worth that there maybe no need to buy new aerial

Well, if the OP can carry out the realignment or get someone else FOC, fair enough if they want to be stingy.

No point in getting an installer to do a half-arsed job & then have to get them back to do it right (that's if they'd even agree to simply re-align the 'wrong' aerial in the 1st place).
