    Hi folks

I've a 06 Golf Tdi, approx 104,000 kms on it.

Up to now have had it serviced in an independent garage, the mechanic was ex VW mechanic, but sadly they've closed down

After my last service he told me my timing belt, alternator service, brake fluid flush etc were due at next service interval which is just about now. He quoted me then €800.

So I'm looking for a good garage in North Dublin who will do it for in or around the same amount a bit cheaper if possible, dont want to go too cheap as I want it done right

Is it even worth my while ringing a main dealer before ringing the bank to be approved for a loan!

I used these guys in Fairview for a timing belt change before, cost €250 for a Volvo S40 http://www.mandfmotors.com/car-servicing/

Timing belt kit and water pump change should be around €350
A major service with all filters and a brake fluid change around €250

I don't know what you/he means by an alternator service tbh.

Nissan Doctor will probably be along shortly, he works in Drumcondra and will be able to help you out ;)

Thanks folks going to have a look at the service interval in the owner manual then pop round a few local garages for quotes.

    But keep the suggestions coming

I bet he meant the Alternator/auxilary belt..

Maybe, would that usually be done in this service? Can I wait a bit?

He orignally gave me a rough estimate of €800, now after scouting about timing belt, water pump, tensioners, brakefluid service etc €400

Also went to main dealer for the craic...off the top of his head €700 I'd say if he went on the computer he'd find many more charges

Yes but it only costs a few euros extra to change it anyway..

Ok might get it done all together, have about €600 to play around with. The lower than that the better but I want everthing done right

Did you get a price of €400 for all the work? I can't see how it could be done properly for €400 tbh.

I can safely add on a couple hundred for labour. This was only an estimate

IMO you should be expecting to get all that done for around the €580 mark.

That should be full timing belt kit with water pump, Auxiliary belt, full service and inspection/diagnostics(oil+filter, air filter, fuel filter) and brake fluid change.

You may be due a pollen filter as well but that would only be a few Euro extra.

Grand, that was the ball park figure I was looking in or around at anyway. Have the money set aside so its not a massive problem but if I can save a few quid I will

What sort of money would it be to replace a clutch slave cylinder on one of these?

Depends on whether it is 5 speed or 6 speed.

Andy is a top man and Atlas did the belts, water pump and new coolant on my girlfriends Leon TDI for 350 euro all in.:)

Car was dropped off at 9am and car was back with my other half just before 1pm that same day.
