y*ps

I think I may have picked up a dose of the dreaded y*ps.

Played with my son on Saturday for the first time in about 6 months and he was horrified at how bad my putting had become. I dismissed it as typical disrespect but he said to me you'll have 5 or more 3 putts tomorrow in competition. Well, he was wrong - I had six and missed 8 putts from 3 feet or less.

Watching the golf last night, there was a statistic that Kevin Na (IIRC) had sunk over 1500 putts from 3 ft or less in succession (of course he missed the next one). I can't even sink 2 in a row.

Truth is I'm now terrified of putts of that distance and as soon as I miss one, I go to pieces.
What to do? I broke out in a sweat when I started googling the y*ps - scary stuff!

Man up! And stop your jibber jabber!
Eat snickers and get some nuts!
The more you let things like that play on your mind the more you will start messing up.
Just take a deep breath, clear your mind and put. It'll all come back.

I don't know what they are or what happens or how you get over them. All I know is your better off not knowing about them. A pros won't even treat you for them as they can be contagious. This thread needs to be deleted

Draw a mark on your hand with a biro. When your putting look down at the mark and when you see it that means its time to putt. One practice stroke. One look at the hole. Hit. Every time the exact same way even when practicing, whether you sink the putt or not.
    Bye bye yips...

Moderator, can we have the title of this thread added to the swear words list so it can't be published please? While you're at it, please add "sh*nk" too

Sounds like you're a better player than your handicap suggests...... ;)

Cut from 13 to 11 last week.

Not sure of css yesterday but probably another .4/.6 gone

Only consolation was they were all birdie putts.

So ya playing pretty well lately.

Is this top trumps..? I can beat that, first time on course in a couple of weeks yesterday. Turns out the greens have gotten a lot faster, the hole smaller and my putting worse. I swear it was painted on at the 15th.

Cruised to 110 strokes, with about half of the shots lost being second putts from 5ft of less...

    Bazzinga...! I win ..!

Why does every thread descend into a p**sing competition? :D

I can assure you that I was a pitiful sight yesterday. I may even have cried. My playing partners moved slowly away from me, wouldn't make eye-contact. Now I know what a leper feels like. Am I not a man and a brother too?

Try looking at the hole while putting.

Get yourself to a practice putting green and practice the 25 in a row from 3 foot. It might take an hour or two but it'll do wonders for your putting confidence not to mention help improve the fluidity of your putting stroke. Try and practice that routine once a week or get to the course that bit earlier before a round and give it a go.
