Just looking into groups for gay people etc and came across the Dundalk outcomers, don't suppose any of you out there are members of it or know anything about it?
Anything at all is much appreciated :)

Don't know if any of our members are from around Dundalk. You could always attend and report back, as it could be of interest for those living in the North East.

    Hello hello:)
I am a member of the Dundalk Outcomers group:D It's a great centre to go to. Really laid back, but really helpful and supportive. And it's a great way of meeting LGBTers from in around Dundalk. You should come in some evening, it's great fun:) Is there anything specific you would like to know about it?

Well am gonna be real cheeky now and ask your age :p like really I'd just like to know if there's many girls round 20 ya know in the group?

Ohh and what exactly do ya do on the meet ups?

Thanks so much all your help!!

aha no worries. I am actually 20 so that might give you a good indication:D Thursday is the usual youth night meet up, so there'd be people between the ages of about 18 and 25 there. We usually do a lot of sitting around and drinking tea (gays seem to love their tea ha) and loads of chatting. It's basically just a social night for people of that age group. You should totally come down this Thursday night, even just for the one night to see what you think of it and if you like it. It starts at around 8 o clock. It'd be great to see a new face there:)

How long roughly do the meet up's last for? Would there be many there?
It's a bit intimating to imagine even going to it you know?

Yeah I know exactly what you mean. I was the same when I went first too. If you want I could meet you a bit before 8 and then bring you into the centre. Might feel a bit less nervy if you have someone there who already knows the place, and so you don't have to go in on your own. Have a think about it:)

The meet ups can go on for a while, people tend to just wander in and out at different times, but it usually starts to get quieter at around 10. With regards to numbers, there is usually between 10 and 20 people wandering in on a Thursday, but some weeks it can get busier or quieter.

are you with the outcomers long then? the idea if going to the group is very scary..i think the thought of people knowing in the group before others know is the worst thing probably you know?
someone said above in the thread that the group can be very 'clicky'..is it like that or not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 realtinh

Yeah I know what you mean. It can be really hard. But the place is totally non-judgemental and really easy going and you can stay for as little or long as you want. It's really easy going:) I've been there a year now.

It can get a bit cliquey sometimes but that's only really because some of the people in the group are best friends anyway. And the room that we meet in is so open there isn't much of an opportunity to sit in separate groups. I'd say give it a go, if you don't like it then there is absolutely no obligation to stay long or go back. It's completely up to you. But it's a great way of socialising with everyone:)

I've been there for some occasions, but not the weekly social gatherings.
I've not been there for a few years now after I moved to Dublin.

There used to be a monthly night but that stopped, though they all mix in with Newry. I haven't been to their centre, but I have been to their monthly night out.. but not in years either!

I've found about the group recently, I live in Drogheda so it's not that far away. I haven't been to any of the meetings yet. I will try to attend one in the near future-not the youth night though, I am way past my youth (the age one at least, I still feel young at heart!!!)

I'm living near Drogheda:D yeah you should totally come in some evening. Tuesday night is men's night, and wednesday night is Women's night so there would definitely be people there who are not in the youth section if you're worried about that:) Call in some evening for a cup of tea to see waht you think of the place:)

    Hi there.
I am much older than that, just turned 40.
It's just that I moved from Greece to Ireland a few months ago and I am trying to build a life, meet new people and all, as I will probably be here for a few good years.
I will probably try the men's night. For me work is not an issue (working 9 to 5) and, though I am not driving, Dundalk is just an hour away.

There's a new gay disco on in Dundalk starting this Saturday.. not sure if it's a one off or monthly occasion.. you should check it out.. I believe Dundalk OutComers are hosting it!

I think that'd be great for you and many like you!

Actually I am planning on going on that one!!! It's on Square Bar.
I don't think it is hosted by Dundalk Outcomers, but they sure support it!!

You're right, it's not run by Outcomers but yes we are supporting it. If the night goes well then the owner is considering making it a monthly event. It sounds like a really good night:)

Also, Dundalk Pride will be happening in July and that one actually is being run by Outcomers. ha
It's going to be brilliant this year with a body and soul themed Pride day, and a mental pride party in the Fairways. Last year our Pride party was unbelievable, everybody loved it. And discounted rooms are at 39euro if you quote Dundalk Pride :D

Here's the link to the schedule of events, it would be great if you could get to any of it, I'm sure you'd really like it :)
