Thinking of buying one, it'd only be around 01/02 mark, but wondering has anybody any experience of them?

    I know they're 250bhp, which is nice :D

MPG wouldn't really bother me, I don't do much mileage annually.

So anybody on here owned one? Thanks :)

    They are awesome..

Great power with fantastic handling and the comfort is great.
If you can afford the mpg go for it :)

Hardly mad power for the size of the car though surely ?

I've heard different figures of mpg, anything from 20 up to over 30. And I'm just after selling my E46 320D, so I know mpg will be shocking compared to it. But my annual mileage is less than 10k per year anyway.

Not mad power for a 2.3, 5 cylinder, but adequate power. Considering I've owned a 260bhp 200sx, and a 215bhp Accord Type R, 250bhp in a practical 4-door saloon is fine by me.

Ya as said LM, that's an S80, tax on a 2.8 is a no-no, I can barely bring myself to pay tax for a 2.3 which I think right now is 960euro :(

    They'll give a GTI a scare ;)

Personally, I'd rather the R, you get an extra 50BHP, plus the added bonus of 4WD, but I would imagine they are even rarer over here. The T5 would make a decent family car sleeper.

They're very rare, I've found a couple in UK, but not within budget.

I've found a couple of T5's on the net, one in parcitular has only 1 owner, full service history, 2001, manual, but has 180k miles on the clock. A couple of other autos, with mileage from 140 - 165k, but I'd prefer a manual.

Would high mileage, if serviced properly, put people off?

Engine and turbo wise no, manual box wise no, auto box wise ish, generally speaking no.

Have a look at www.expolicecar.co.uk Some real crackers on there

I had one an 01 back in 05. Awesome car for it's size.

Very comfortable too as you'd expect from a Volvo. If I was in the market for a car and had no concerns about fuel consumption then I'd definitely have a T5 again.

I can't remember tbh. But I do remember that the fuel gauge dropped rapidly and I had to stop for petrol a lot more often than I did for diesel in the 1.9TDi Passat that I had after it. :pac:

When I was looking into them the MPG seemed to be high 20s at best. Great engine though with that nice 5 pot sound

Did you have any problems with it, or any common problems you were aware of?

I don't mind much about the mpg, I've had very low mpg figures in recent cars :pac:

I had for almost a year and not one problem - not even a blown bulb.

I looked into them before alright. Autocar did mention the mpg when they tested one, it was quite shocking, I think it was thirstier than an M3 they had on test too, no matter what way they drove it. Aside from that, go for it!!
925 on tax, so that's 35 quid less a year than you thought so you can put it towards petrol... :p

FWIW we have an auto '98 V70 T5 and I get 21USMPG (25 UK) on a typical daily run to work (some city, some freeway) and about about 31ish (37UK) on long journeys at sustained highway speeds. This is on US fuel though to take what you will from that. Our V70 has 217K miles on it now and has still has a fair wallop of power for a boxy unassuming grocery getter. The T5 is pretty torquey and the turbo isnt huge so turbo lag isnt too bad.
Only thing to watch out for in the later models is the ETM, you want one that has a yellow label to signify that it was replaced. PCV systems get clogged so with the motor warm pull the dipstick at idle, any signs of smoke most likely mean the PCV needs to be serviced.
The T6 motor is nice too (we have one of those as well) but the auto transmission is not up to the torque it produces, something like 280ft/lb from 1800-5800. The T6 engine is so smooth and effortless its VERY easy to get into trouble, cruise control is a must!

If you can afford the T5 go for it. Chip it to 300 if you want, just dont expect to use the full 300 until 3rd gear.

I've been driving the later 2401cc T5 for the last 4 years. MPG is not bad, better than a 525i of similar vintage, you'll see mid 20's in town and low 30's in longer spins. I'm sure a more light footed individual who switches off the climate control may better those figures.

I would have no fear of a high mileage one, once it has been maintained right. Mine is on over 213,000 klms at present and other than normal servicing, tyres and stuff it is a trusty long term companion.

For my one, the 2.4 the tax is no €1005 pa as the 5% increase in the last budget moved it up from €935.

I would recommend one to anybody.

    Thanks all for replies :)

The two I was watching on Donedeal have both been removed, maybe sold, but disappeared from my "saved adds", not marked as "sold".

And there were 2 others I was looking at, black one in Limerick, and blue one in Waterford, but NCT up on one, and about to expire on another. Both were auto.

So, does anybody know of any decent ones (manual preferably) for sale in Ireland (budget €2k though :()?
