plastic protection on window frames

On our window frames there's this plastic protection that peels off and it says it's to be removed immediately after installation.
However it'll keep the frames clean during plastering. So I guess I'm wondering if I should leave it on or will it cause damage to the frames?

leave it on til plastering is finished outside. Leave it on the inside til you're finished painting. You might need a blade(stanley knife) to get it off outside but it won't cause damage unless it's left on for a very long time. Make sure to take it off before the scaffolding is down.

When we were building our house we got the lads installing the windows to peel off the plastic wrapping. The main reason for this was that I'd seen a house where it wasn't taken off in time on one of the sliding doors and the sun got to it and basically it sticks/welds itself to the window frame and is really hard to get off. The plastic kind of splits also as the sun damages it so again just makes removal really difficult and you'll be taking it off in bits and pieces.

We didn't have plasterers lined up when we were putting our windows in so we were not sure how long we were going to be waiting on them to start so we just didn't take the chance on leaving it on. I can't remember now but I'm sure there was a bit of moaning from the plasterers about us having not left it on, but it just meant they had to work clean, which isn't a bad thing. They had a sponge to clean down the frames and glass as they were working.

It really depends how soon your plasterers are starting after the windows are installed. I'm sure they'd be okay left covered in plastic for a few weeks but there is a reason for them stating to remove it immediately. But like Kizzyf says; get them off as soon as the plasterers are finished. Hope this helps.

    Todays useful tip:

Dont go near a Stanley Blade:eek:
Just spray WD40 on the glass/frame, leave 20 seconds and wipe with a sponge.
Been using this method for years and it works.
