Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis have closed deals to star in CBS’ untitled Ralph Lamb drama pilot, written by Goodfellas writer Nicholas Pileggi and Greg Walker and directed by James Mangold. In his TV series debut, Quaid will play the title role in the project, set in the 1960s and centered around the true story of Ralph Lamb (Quaid) – rodeo cowboy turned longtime Sheriff of Las Vegas- and Johnny Savino (Chiklis), a Chicago mob fixer whose entrepreneurial vision for transforming Las Vegas collides with the law-and-order mandate of Sheriff Lamb. In addition to starring, Quaid and Chiklis, both repped by WME, will serve as co-executive producers on the Ralph Lamb project, which is executive produced by Pileggi, Mangold, Walker, Cathy Konrad and Arthur Sarkissian. CBS TV Studios is producing.

1960s drama Vegas has also been picked up by CBS which stars Dennis Quaid, Michael Chiklis, Jason O'Mara and Carrie-Ann Moss. It follows the true story of Ralph Lamb, a cowboy turned sheriff in Las Vegas.

Sarah Jones, the star of Fox’s J.J. Abrams drama Alcatraz, has joined the star-studded cast of CBS new fall drama Vegas as a new regular. The show, toplined by Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis, also co-stars Carrie Ann Moss and Jason O’Mara. The series is inspired by the true story of former Las Vegas Sheriff Ralph Lamb, a fourth-generation rancher tasked with bringing order to Las Vegas in the 1960s, a gambling and entertainment mecca emerging from the tumbleweeds. Quaid plays Lamb, who clashes with Vincent Savino (Chiklis), a ruthless Chicago gangster who plans to make Vegas his own. Jones will play the smart, fiery daughter of one of Chicago’s most powerful men who works in the casino running the skim. Together with Savino they’ll devise ingenuous ways to get the cash back to Chicago.

Looks interesting - basically Casino The Series then with Chiklis playing the Joe Pesci-type role?

Anything with Vic Mackey has my vote though :)

So anyone keeping up with this? On paper it seemed like this show has lots of potential but I'm disappointed after only watching the pilot. Michael Chiklis' character doesn't doesn't really do it for me as Ralph Lamb's arch enemy for the coming season. Just doesn't seem intimidating or dangerous. What really bothers me though is that it looks like they spent the majority of their budget on big name actors/actresses. The backdrops look VERY fake and cheap. Pan Am set around the same time did a much better job of it. I'll watch a couple of more episodes to give it a fighting chance but with the likes of Boardwalk Empire on at the moment it hasn't really got much of a chance.

Stick with it Al. I've thought it gets better as it goes and as the characters bed in. I'm quite enjoying the show. As an aside, any show that casts Mike from Breaking Bad gets lots of kudos in my book too :)

It's got tough competition in Boardwalk alright but I wouldn't worry about Chiklis being able to play the dangerous/intimidating type... he put in some fantastic performances as the anti-hero in The Shield

Not a good sign, they have cut the episode order by one, from 22 to 21. They gave the lost episode and cash to Elementary while adding another extra ep. making 24 episodes for Elementary. This shows lack of faith on the part of CBS and says this show is headed for cancellationville by the end of May.

Was waiting for Chicklis to come back to a serious roll, definitely gonna check this out. No interest in a cowboy turned sherrif but hopefully it's okay. Thanks for posting OP.

Maybe it is just me but all the whole Lamb family is annoying and now Jack has killed Mia's father Rizzo which is a shame

I think I'll best stick with Justified

Let's hope. I kind of like the show. I think they have some rejigging to do if they make it to season 2 but there are some good ingredients there. It's moderately interesting right now.
