Camera problem!!!

I have had my Fujifilm finepix S1800 for the last year or so. About one week after I bought it, batteries would no longer work in the camera and it would only come on and go off straight away. I just put it in the box and left it. Now, a year later, I took it back out and was wanting it to function so I made a closer inspection. It seems as if a battery leaked and got all over the bottom of the camera. not sure if it is the problem or not..

Can anyone help? Is it an easy fix I can do myself?

It's a pretty difficult fix, you might just be able to do it yourself.
    Steps:
    1. Buy new batteries
    2. Put batteries in camera
    3. Turn camera on
    4. Take photos

Forgot to add, spent serious money on long lasting batteries, all sorts ;)
no matter what, still doesn't work...

You made a couple of serious mistakes. Assuming it was a new camera,
you should have returned it to the shop as soon as the problem appeared.

That was the second one. A year is a long time to leave a flat battery in
    a camera.

I don't think you have much to lose by trying to fix it. New cameras with
similar specs cost $150-200. I reckon a working S1800 can't be worth much
more than €100. This means it is beyond economical repair. You can try to
find someone to repair it at a reasonable price. Forum member zerohamster
may be able to help. Otherwise, you may as well dismantle the camera,
remove battery goo using PCB cleaner or some surgical spirit, check for
corrosion damage. put the camera back together and try powering it up
with a set of high quality, fully-charged NiMH cells.
