2010 Ford Focus - Radio Replacement

    Hi all,

I'm very likely changing my car soon to a 2010ish Diesel. The Ford Focus is one of the cars I have on my list as I have had 2Fords to date and they've always done the business. The one issue I have with the Focus is the quality of the radio. I currently have a 2005 Mondeo but I took out the radio and swapped it with a sony headunit with a usb port for music (with fascia add on).

I've done some googling but cant seem to find a similar set up available for the focus. Has anyone any experience of this? Or solutions? I know it seems like a small issue, but I like my music, certainly over the radio.

    Thanks in advance,

    Rob

I've been doing some looking, there is a radio in some of the sports models etc that take an SD card. Anyone got any idea of what the model/make is etc so I can see how much a replacement would cost?

Would something like this solution help?

    http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=147694

Looks like can change the unit with this device to convert the dash to a double din.

I use a Sony headunit in the car and has bluetooth on it so good for handsfree but can also use it to play music which is on the phone. Also can control the music from the stereo controls so handy.

thanks for that. The radio set up in the Focus's I've seen is different. I'm gonna try attach/embed images of the basic model which most focus's have, and the fancy one.

I've got a similar setup with a sony headunit that you mention in my mondeo at the minute.

Is that not the completely different focus model from USA mentioned in that conversion kit?

Even the focus logo on the dash is totally different than the one used in europe

That fancy stereo has built in Sat Nav into it and was available on special run out Zetec Sport models in the UK only. Just something to also note, the 2010 Focus had built-in voice activated Bluetooth which maybe incorporated into the stereo. So changing the standard stereo may also remove or disable the bluetooth function.

I'd either find one of the UK Zetec Sport models or a Focus that the original owner speced with the 6 speaker Sony stereo/cd changer.

Thats what I was thinking, any Focus I've been in looked alot different to that.

This could be my only option, either that or just get over it. There doesnt seem to be many of those specced models out there though. I'll keep looking thanks.
I suppose something like this could be an option too.

Ford brought out a gadget for hooking up a USB drive to older model stereos called(I think) "MusicBox". Can be fitted through the glovebox or centre console armrest and controlled via the stereo headunit or wheelstalk controls. Think it works with mark 1 focus's onwards.

this sounds like the business. I'll do some googling and see what I can come ipp with. Cheers for this.

NO problem.Let me know how you get on. Was sort of interested in getting it myself at one stage, but got sidetracked.

Popped into a ford garage today.they hadn't a clue about the music box initially but when I gave them info on it they said it'd be bought and fitted for about 200yoyo.

In my experience, ford dealerships are generally useless when it comes to info on their own products and overpriced when it comes to fitting anything to their cars. Thought I saw this on line for approx €80 on a Dutch/German(?) site and didn't look too difficult to fit. If I find it again, I'll post.
