A friend of mine is currently putting a Transit Van (04) back on the road after it been parked up outside for Two years. He got the van started ok but it would not go into gear with engine running.Gears changed ok with engine off.Anyway in the process of trying to sort it out the clutch mastercylinder (Plastic) broke in two while pressing the clutch pedal. This now has to be replaced but I wonder would the breakage be caused by something seized in the clutch itself and will the same thing happen to the new cylinder.I understand that those master cylinders give a lot of trouble.Any ideas?

It's more than likely the disc is stuck to the pressure plate.
When you get the m/s sorted, start it in 1st gear with the clutch pressed, keep it preesed while it's moving and apply the brakes, this should free the disc.
Give youself plenty of room to avoid any mishaps.
