    Hi guys,
We're getting married next year and it's come down to these two venues for the reception. We're having about 80 people for dinner so quite a small wedding. He prefers The Westgrove in Clane whereas I prefer Finnstown in Lucan so I was just wondering if anyone had any reviews of either?
The fact that Finnstown is in receivership is also offputting if I'm honest.

The food we had at the Westgrove is the best meal I've ever been served at a wedding, it was amazing!

dont worry about the receivership thing. half the hotels in the country are in that.

theyre both at about the same standard for me (really good) but 80 bordering on small for both I would have thought, did you look at the nearby 2 hotels in liexlip? liexlip house and liffey valley house? Both similar standard but smaller rooms.

I'm actually from Leixlip so we've looked at both of those but I just didn't like them. They seemed very unwilling to deviate from their packages and do what we wanted.
I would be a little worried about the size of the rooms alright, the Westgrove has two function rooms and it would be the smaller one for us.
Finnstown only has the one room though, I really don't want the guests to look lost!

theres little to chose between them for me, Finnstown has nicer grounds as you probably know so Id probably side with that. And if ye're local it would be cheaper for all the liexlip people to get home too. :)

I djed at a small wedding in finnstown that used the room in front of the function room.
    It would probably hold 80.

what date are you looking at ? ... we've provisionally booked finnstown for 2013 - going to look at it for the third time this weekend.

have you also looked at Trim - knightsbrook is excellent....we were considering Brooklodge in macreddin village (which is fantastic) - but its €125 per head +extras

We also checked out the Westgrove in Clane and what put us off was the Supervalue shopping centre and apartments on the grounds..and no gardens etc to take photos. (something you might use to get finnstown and persuade himself)

We have approx 120-150 people and most of them will be staying overnight so still have to negotiate the price with the hotel.

It's next April and it's midweek so most hotels seem open to negotiation.
Only looked at Knightsbrook in Trim but wasn't that fussed on it.
Was thinking if we go with Westgrove we might see about getting the photos in the grounds of Castletown in Celbridge.

The food is lovely in both hotels.

I have photographed a few weddings in Finnstown and the gardens are much better there but I wouldn't worry about the lack of gardens in the Westgrove.

There is a little park near the playground in the village and it is perfect for the Bride & Groom photos with trees, benches, flowers and a stream as well as a castle across from the Westgrove that a photographer would make look stunning.

The canal is two minutes out the road where there is a tree lined canopy over the road that looks stunning in Autumn when the leaves colour changes.

There are also some lovely colourful shops etc. on the main street that would make great urban backgrounds for pics if you are willing to think outside the box a little.

I'm from Clane myself so if you need any more info etc. let me know
