Didn't see a thread for this. I hadn't heard about it until I saw Chris Rock on Graham Norton this evening. This is the sequel to 2 Days In Paris, a film I thought was great. Like the first it was written and directed by Julie Delpy. This one takes place in New York (no ****!), Delpy's character had a kid with the guy from the first movie but they split up and now she's going out with Chris Rock and her parents are coming to visit. Hilarity ensues.

THe first movie was very Woody Allen-esque, from what I've seen of this one the humour seems a bit more broad, not sure if thats necessarily a good thing. Still, will be interested to see how Chris Rock fares in this kind of movie, bit of a departure for him.

I really enjoyed Two Days in Paris so I'm looking forward to this.

The first one was highly enjoyable if derivative of many others. The second point probably won't be addressed by setting it in New York of all places, but it does look like fun, and I like unexpected sequels like this. Now if only I can get over my dislike of Chris Rock...

I went to see this today. It's very enjoyable and funny up until a point. Goldberg is certainly missed, but Rock is actually surprisingly subdued except for a few obviously improvised lapses. Delpy hasn't lost her touch for quirky comedy and culture clashes and there are some very funny moments. But eventually all the nuttiness of her character's eccentric French family gets a bit too much. The film lacks the emotional core of its predecessor and feels adrift and scattershot in comparison. And it culminates in an utterly ridiculous scene featuring a certain notorious New York actor playing himself that makes you wonder what the hell Delpy was thinking.

Watched it this evening and wasn't won over by it alas. The whole thing felt too broad and contrived - not that its predecessor was a study in subtlety or anything - and culminates in the aforementioned cameo which is indeed the wrong side of ridiculous. Like Liberal Arts a few months ago, the film kind of wants us to think its witty and intellectual but it's not smart enough to actually convince. I did enjoy some of the more adventurous stylistic moments, such as the montages consisting of a rapid series of photographs - nice to see someone getting some mileage out of the most filmed city on the planet.

I was moderately impressed by Chris Rock's subdued delivery in it. After this and his appearance in Louie, I'm being won over to a comedian I previously had very little time for. Can't say I fell for Delpy's quirky neurosis this time around, though - more obnoxious than likeable.

Got around to watching this today.

I enjoyed it overall but agree with the above. Delpy seemed overly neurotic in this one where as she was likeable before, the stuff with the family just seemed a bit too "wacky" to me too. The humour was much more subtle in the first film, and I think that approach would have worked better this time around too. And yeah, that cameo was definitely a wtf moment for me too.

It wasn't bad though, it was both genuinely affecting and funny in places, its clear Delpy puts a lot of herself into her movies. I also have to say Rock was very good in his role. Would like to see him try his hand at a few more proper acting roles.

The cheese episode at the airport amused me and I was ready to expect great things.
    It did my head in.
Julie Delpy's character annoyed the hell out of me.
The relationship with her sister annoyed the hell out of me.
The bloke her sister brought annoyed the hell out of me.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
