    Dealer in dublin is selling a car i am thinking of buying..he said if its a
    late 58 plate it is an 09 in ireland...also he says he cannot sell the car
    to me without the vrt being paid first...what do you think..thanks for any information..

    Sounds right. England run August to August and car would need to be on Irish plates for you to own here.

    Get the UK Reg from him and do a HPI check for peace of mind also.

    a lot of s/h dealers seem to say this. I don't know the legality of it, tbh.

    Ask him for his TAN number - if he gets shirty, walk away. Don't ask "Do you have a TAN no.?" as that allows him to just say 'Yes'. The TAN no. is issued to the dealer by Revenue (if they import and sell s/h cars, and probably for other stuff).
