New political comedy from Jay Roach (Austin Powers, Meet the Parents) starring Will Ferrell & Zach Galifianakis as two rival North Carolina politicians with presidential aspirations.

I'm a big fan of both Ferrell & Galifianakis and even though most comedies released recently have been very hit and miss, this actually looks surprising good.

Plus the support cast is excellent and includes the likes of Brian Cox, John Lithgow & Dan Aykroyd.

It's being released on the 12th of August.

Just seen this now, have to say im liking it. Looks like it has potential to be another Will Ferrell classic.

Can't stand Ferrell, but I'll admit there's a few good moments in that trailer. Hopefully its not all of them

Yup nothing worse than seeing a film were the only funny parts are in the trailer, Employee of the Month springs to mind decent trailer shocking film.

But Im going to have faith in this one.

Way prefer Zach Galifianakis to Will Ferrell. Looks like it could be alright though.

When is it going to be released in Ireland?

They make election movies every US presidential cycle. in 2008 they had 'Swing Vote', a dreadful cliche of a film starring an equally dreadful Kevin Costner.

Only saw this thread now. I seen this movie weeks ago over here in America and in my opinion it is great. I saw it the same week as Ted and thought it was a lot better. A lot less fart jokes for a start. If you are familar with the American political system you will "get" all the jokes. Invoking God for no reason and associating the rivals with communism are common tactics, so it is spot on, especially at this time in the cycle.

I can confirm, unlike most movies of late (especially Ted) this does not have all the good jokes in the trailer, simply because they are R-rated. I won't hint at them because they will be spoilers. For those uninformed the rich brothers trying to control the election are based on the Koch brothers who are energy mogals who basically run the Republican party in America and work against green energy and promote big oil etc. Might explain things a bit more. Don't know when it is out back home, no one there seems to have heard about it. If you like Ferrell, I doubt you will be disappointed.

Think it is out around the end of Sept over here

Like the look of it from the trailer

I saw it a few weeks ago too, and thought it was quite good. Thought it ran out of steam a bit at the end simply because it's difficult to tie up movies like this. It has a lot of very good jokes in it though, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Will Ferrell's performance. Both him and Galifianakis were great. Pretty raunchy humour, which I wasn't expecting for some reason, and a very good satire on the state of American politics, particularly the right-wing.

Seen it tonight, Great film. I had tears rolling down my face from laughter twice during the film. It does end a bit predictable but it is a comedy after all and a dam good one at that.

It's a bit cruder than I was expecting all the same, but I'd still recommend anyone to go see it

I would recommend it to watch - as said earlier it isn't one a movie where the best jokes are shown in the trailer beforehand. Plus Ferrell isn't annoying it, and as some great scenes, especially the one where he handles snakes!

I didn't find it great at all to be honest. I thought I would as I have a good interest in American politics and the nonsense of it all and do find Will Ferrell funny but for me this fell flat on its face. There were very few laugh out loud moments apart from one or two admittedly
the baby being punched and the dog from the artist
    but it's easily forgettable.

Much better movies out there at the moment than this.
