mondeo poor mpg

My 04 130 tdci mondeo seems to be a bit thirsty. I worked out Im getting about 37mpg mixed but the trip computer stays at about 33-35mpg and maybe 40 on the motorway. It also seams very dead compared to my 150bhp leon but I know they are two completly different cars.

Is there any thing to look out for on these that can reduce power and increase mpg?? I have fitted a new air filter and cleaned the maf. Diesel filter looks new and there was no water in it when I opened the drain plug.

Its not smokey, I had a quick look at the egr valve and its not cloged. I was going to try run it for a while with the maf plugged out but will this cause me any problems?

Also there was 4 new injectors fitted before I got it, would these need running in or anything?

    Cheers

Thats thirsty for one of those. I had one for 5 years and 48-50mpg was normal on it.
Also, it should provide a pretty spirited drive from 1800rpm in 4th to 6th. Try disconnecting the MAF, I can't see it doing any harm (it might throw up a fault light on the dash).
The other thing that might be worth looking for is a split intercooler hose (but this would cause smoke, and lack of boost).

Does the temperature gauge needle reach normal levels when cruising? It should reach the middle of the gauge, i.e. pointing straight up.

There must be something wrong with it anyway, it should feel pretty quick even after coming from the Leon. Was the Leon mapped?

If you want to spin out to me some day I will take it for a drive and tell you whether it is normal or not anyway.

Cheers George. No the leon was standard engine wise. I'll arange that with you some day/evening.
I took another one that a fellow was selling outside portlaoise for a spin and it felt a bit faster but not a lot. This was before I bought it as I thought it was a little dead when test driving. He said it was a 130 anyway. Maybe it was only a 115 6speed?

It should say either 115ps or 130ps on a sticker on the timing chain cover. Something like "Duratorq CD132 115ps"

my own says 130 on the cover but I never got a chance to look at the other one as it was pouring rain the same day.
