So I got eyes tested by a well known optician recently I decided to try contact lenses which I want just for one day for photographs. Anyways I went in got the eyes tested and the optician put in contacts for me all went well loved the lenses they were very comfortable and clear. Anyways I got them out no hassle but have trouble putting them in, I've had a few more teaching sessions and I'm still having trouble. The optician gave me my glasses prescription but won't translate it for me to buy lenses online now I'm just wondering are they obliged to tell me what contacts to get?

the optician will not give you your contact lens prescription unless you can compedently show that you can insert and remove your lenses satisfactorily.
this makes sense for obvious reasons.

I know it must be frustrating for you that your optician won't provide you with your prescription, but as Nino1 said, it is for your own good. They do not have to provide you with your prescription if they are concerned that you are not yet competent dealing with your lenses. Nobody is fully competent at the beginning, so don't worry!

It takes a while to perfect the art of inserting and removing lenses! I am not going to tell you my method that my optometrist taught me out of fear that it would completely throw you off and you would damage your eye, but keep practising!

The other reason for not giving a contact lens prescription is because the actually fitting process is not complete. You need to have won the lenses for enough time to determine if you have any sensitivity to the contact lens materials or the solution. If you were wearing the lenses full-time then usually the prescription can be given at your 1 month or 3 month check up all being well.
