Told a mate of mine i'd ask for info here.

    Situation:

He is self employed, his wife was made redundant one year ago and her 'stamps' have run out so must apply for Jobseekers Allowance?

Social welfare have demanded that he supply 'certified accounts' & access to his bank accounts; they say that the information that he has given them - revenue returns etc is not good enough, and that unless he supplies what has been requested his wife will not be entitled to anything

Surely they cannot demand that he spend hundreds of euro getting certified accounts when the revenue does not request the same...
Also these are his bank accounts with his money - & business money in them and have nothing to do with his wife; surely they have no right to this info.

afaik know this is in the welfare guidelines. If she wants to recieve the payment they must supply the documents requested.Regarding bank accounts they need these because his means will affect his wifes payment.

Do you not need to give revenue certified returns every year?

Kind of unfair if they don't take revenue return as if revenue is happy with it welfare should be and if you are a sole trader you can do your own returns, no need to provide certified accounts or employ accountant at all. Mind you most people do but it is not requirement.

it doesnt cost hundreds of euros to get certified accounts, the guidelines are there for a reason so tell your friend to suck it up and do it or else the wife gets no jsa and the hubby will have to financially support her and not the state

also if the hubby is earning more than the guidelines then she may get nothing

Will you give me the name & address of your accountant please? I'll pass it on to him and he'll get it done for a song no probs... Also if you could point out where in the guidlines it stipulates 'certified accounts' I'd be grateful; if you can't then i'd be happy if you could refrain from commenting, as so far you have been of no assistance what so ever

    Cheers

Firblog if you want the social to financially support your wife then you do as they ask, if you dont like it then you support her plain and simple....why when you or your wife where in and the accounts where asked for didnt you request the guidlines it stipulates this in, your error oh sorry your friends error not anyone on the internets

as for an accountant well ring round i know of a good one in ranelagh who can do certified accounts for you at a reasonable rate, hell i'm qualified i can do them for ya

I do hope you dont go into the social with that attitude or else you will get no where

A friend of mine (self employed) who gets part JSA/JSB gets an allowance for his wife, and all that is required of him every year for the SW is the notice of assessment from revenue. He was never asked for a set of accounts. And he does hire an accountant to do the accounts for him.

He was never asked for a set of accounts from a certified accountant.

I fill out my OH's form 11 every year and we keep good financial records, that if required we can show the revenue. I assume being self employed you would have an income and expenditure account that may be suffice?

Once you have bank account details to back this up?
