Stoves Gas Oven problem.

It starts up normal and lights like normal but then the oven starts to make a whirring noise after a few minutes, this doesn't seem to affect the oven, if it was electric i'd be saying it was the fan.

As it's gas I turned it off straight away, waited a bit and tried it again, same story.

It's model GL 616 Newhome, 8 years old, any ideas?

    Thanks.

it could be the cooling fan you hear ,had to replace a good few of them

get it checked as it disperses flue gases to prevent them being reburned and also cools wiring internally

Tried it again later (had to think of the Sunday dinner) and the noise has gone, for now.

Yes I think it might be the fan above the oven.
If I undo the screws at the side the oven should pull out, will that give me access to the fan and are they easy to get/replace?

Not going near it unless the noise comes back, the fan is working.

If it was the cooling fan the noise could continue after you turned it off until the oven cools down, does it do that ??

If you decide to go down the lines of "undo the screws at the side the oven should pull out, will that give me access to the fan and are they easy to get/replace" you will be breaking the law, this is a gas appliance and must have a RGI work on it.

No, it only made the noise 2 or 3 times just after being turned on, this has now stopped but could happen again anytime.

Thanks for the legal advice, question, never heard of gas cookers being serviced like fires/heating, do people do this, should it be done every x years?

the fan on that model intermitantly grinds or hums when it's on it's way out , what is dangerous is that the fan speed slows down ( while still operating) and doesn't disperse poc's quick enough , which in some cases can lead to them being reburned and causing higher levels of CO .

yes a gas cooker should be serviced annually but most rgi,s arnt trained to do it properly unless they have trained in the uk or volenterily undertook the training .
you should get the fan replaced now as you know there is a problem . ask the service person to do a flue gas analysis before and after fitting new one just to see if there is a difference on co ppm - not a room CO test , that is different to the appliance test .

I'd be interested in getting the fan replaced, once over given to the cooker, and get a service on the Baxi boiler, 2 birds with the one stone.:)

Any recommendations on a good guy to do the job properly (pm)?

If you could give me an indication of price, service on the baxi is about €80, how much for the fan and once over on the cooker, extra €40 + price of fan, all else going well?

Hi , my Stoves NewHome GL616 has suddenly stopped working . The control panel no longer lights up and , obviously , the gas does not ignite for oven or grill . What could be wrong ? Its approx 10 years old and was working perfectly up till yesterday . I cannot find the plug for the appliance as its built in and this may be behind the appliance itself . I have checked fuseboard and control panel for House to see if any mains fuse tripped etc and everything is ok here .

How long should a gas oven last for ? 10 years does not seem long to Me ?

    Appreciate any feedback

    A.
