Hey guys, im pretty new to boards.

I'm interested in seeing what other computer afficiendo's think of my next build, im trying to build a desktop that will be upgradable and feasible for the next 5 years. By this I mean I can upgrade my ram to 32 gb, get an sdd and upgrade my processor due to the chip im getting which will hopefully support the next intel processor.

    1. What is your budget? 1150 euro's.

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming

    3. Do you need a monitor? No.

3b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? Sold last desktop, was a dell inspiron 5150, the motherboard was fried.

    4. Do you need any of these peripherals? No.

    5. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes.

    6. How can you pay? Bank Transfer.

    7. When are you purchasing? Depends on money situation

    8. If you need help building it, where are you based? [South Dublin City/Cork City/Kerry/etc.] Sligo

    9. Do you need a copy of Windows? Depends :P

    10. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No.

    Here's my planned build:

    intel i5- 3570k (ivy bridge)
Asus x77 chipset motherboard(ivy bridge dedicated)
    Sapphire Radeon hd 2gb 7850 o/c
Corsair vengeance 16 gb ddr3 ssdram.
850 watt power supply - antec (may change this)
    cooler master haf 912
    western digital 1tb hdd
    24x sata reader and writer
cooler master hyper evo 212 (eu version)

Im a gamer by the way, so I know i should prob get a water cooling system yet am not sure what set-up to go for.

Please rate and leave suggestions, remember im trying to build a desktop that can be feasibly upgraded to keep up with new technology for the next 5 years. Thanks!

Come on guys, i really would love some input as I'm not a hardware specialist.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Not very patient are you ;)

-Do you mean a Z77? As far as I'm aware there is no X77 board.
    -Great GPU.
-16Gb RAM is way overkill, you'd be fine with 8GB. Perhaps some low-profile RAM? Those heatspreaders can get in the way of CPU coolers.
-Again, 850w is way over kill. You'd get away with 550w. If you want to crossfire in the future get a 650w, that will be fine too.
    - Popular Gaming Case, I never really liked it that much but if you like it thats all that matters.
-Won't even comment on the hard drive and dvd drive, you can't really go wrong with them.
    - Whilst that CPU fan is better than stock, I'd get a better one.
    Perhaps: http://www2.hardwareversand.de/Intel+AMD/52671/Thermalright+HR-02+Macho.article

If you're interested in water cooling perhaps take a look at the Corsair H60, H80, and H100 range?

Yeah I meant z77. My bad. I will defo be crossfiring in the future as Im pretty sure that come late next year i will either have to upgrade my graphics card or crossfire with the same model, it would be cheaper to crossfire with the same model.

The reason i was going with 16gb ram was that it seemed to be good value for money and from reviews i read was easily detectable and installable with various motherboard and processor units.

The only reason im interested in water cooling is because i read that the new ivy bridge processors overheat quite easily. Ive had problems in the past with overheating and have come to the conclusion that with watercooling il be safer. Id rather spend 50 euro extra on watercooling than 400 euro on replacements :)

On the motherboard do you think it is quite future proof? I have come to the conclusion that due to the way intel release their processors the new ones coming out in mid 2013 should support a z77 chipset.

Thanks for the suggestions, im not big into hardware but i really need to get a good gaming computer for 2012 as there are some brilliant, truly fantastic games coming out

edit : @ tij da fen
thanks for suggestion, its seems quite good but i think 400 euros on the graphics card is a bad deal as the sapphire 7850 2gb oc is 267 euro's and is crossfirable, i have become disillisioned with nvidia, they really seem to have lost the edge on ati this year. I know they are releasing new graphics card and i know the gtx 450 and similar graphics cards are legendary but for me, ati are the way to go.

I seen the motherboard you put up and it seems to be brilliant value for money, im not great at reading tech info and only have basic knowledge of hardware terms, could you explain what sets it apart from the one I have in my planned build?

The GTX 670 is on par with the AMD HD 7970. The 670 seems to overclock like a champ as well. It's a very good card, better than the 7850. A year down the line you could add a 2nd one in SLI but if you wanted to use two graphics cards you'd have to spend a little more on the mobo. It's a very good deal whatever way you cut it.

The new intel processors are likely to be on a new socket type so no matter what motherboard you buy it won't be compatible. The Ivy Bridges are very hot when overclocking but you should be able to overclock on air. You won't destroy components as long as you know what you're doing and monitoring temps when overclocking.

16Gb ram is pointless for a gaming system. You will not benefit in any way with it. 8GB is plenty. Infact 4GB is enough for most users but 8Gb is recommened because of how cheap it is.

    Some food for thought.

wow those benchmarks are bloody startling! Didnt realize the 7850 2gb o/c performed like that!!
I presumed because i could overclock it, it could be on par with the hd 7970.

I should be safe with this build for the next few years i reckon, i can overclock the processor so that when the new ones come out, it may have a chance to compete.

Thanks for your help guys, if you have any more suggestion then do fire away :)
