Hi all, my insurance is up for renewal and I am switching from allianz to 123.ie, 140 euro cheaper!! I had a claim for a broken side window after a break in to my car and allianz have put this on my no claims letter as accidental damage. Fair enough if i have to disclose it but 123 are now looking for more money. First of all it was'nt accidental and i thought it would'nt affect my no claims. Is this a ploy to stop you leaving?? Any advice would help greatly. Why can't anything be straightforward anymore?

maybe read the terms of your insurance?

I've claimed for windows in the past and it's never affected my policy

I have policy with Allianz and for windscreen claims NCB is not affected.
They did however includ all windscreen claims on my NCB statement I get every year, but they signed them as "WINDSCREEN CLAIM".

From what you said, it looks like your claim was treated like "accidental damage" claim, which indeed should remove your NCB.
Contact allianz to make them correct it.

    3) Is damage to my windscreen covered ?
Is damage to my windscreen covered ?

If you have selected windscreen cover with your policy (please check your policy schedule), We will pay for breakage or repair of glass in the windscreen, windows and roof of Your Car including any scratching of the bodywork directly resulting from such breakage, where the claim is processed through our Aligned Windscreen Repair network.

The amount we will pay is limited to € 200 where the claim is not processed through our Aligned Windscreen Repair network. This is not subject to excess and will not effect your No Claims Bonus discount entitlement.

if you had windscreen cover on your old policy then it shouldn't be effecting your NCB.

I saw it noted on my Axa NCB cert a couple of years ago after a side window had to be replaced after a break-in.

Whether you like it or not, it is a 'claim' because they are paying out money even if they don't count it as a claim for NCB purposes. Noting it on your NCB cert. however does restrict your ability to move which is probably why they put it there in the first place.

Glass damage is always noted on No claims document but it doesnt affect your bonus in all cases ive known.
To be honest, I wouldnt be moving my cover to a company who attempt to load your premiem for previous glass breakage.
Your case might be slightly different though in that if its vandal damage or something like that, the insurers might see this as a genuine reason to load your policy as it could be said you are an increased risk for them.
I would query with existing insurers as to the stutus of the claim and then you have something to argue with the new company about

Perhaps it is affected because it is a side window and not actually a windscreen?

Allianz windscreen cover still covers it. It covers all windows with exception for sunroof, provided windows is the only damage.
F.e. if you hit pole and broke a window also bending your door, then it can't be covered by windscreen cover.
But if someone thrown a stone on your rear side window and it broke, then you are covered by windscreen cover.
    That's allianz rules.

    Depends on your contract

I have seen ones where only front and back windows where covered, some time back
all my recent ones everything was covered

    .....broken side window.......

    side window ≠ windscreen
