Have you tried picasa? It has an easy clone tool which might be of help...and it's all round easier to use (though less powerful) than the other packages, imho.

If scanning them, please same them as TIFF files, and scan at a nice resolution.

Here's my effort. I'm sure someone else could do better but it just started looking weird the more I cleaned it up after this. Full size version is here:

If it's for an 83 year old lady I'm sure one more can't hurt...

You might want to soften this one as it was quite soft to start with and I've over-sharpened it a bit but you could play around with it anyway. Now I really need to get back to work!

It looks weird as it is. Like a charcoal sketch more than a photo.

I didn't see the point in attempting the shirt cleanup. It's not the important part of the image and can always be cut out.

If you want better results you need to scan in a higher resolution copy of the image. There is lots of artifacting going on (pixelisation in simple terms).

In your version: the background is too clean which makes the subject look odd and if you don't clean up the shirt you have to crop it square which will look like sh1t when she prints it out and puts it in a standard frame. Not to mention the p1ss job you did of his eyes. What's the first thing people look at in a portrait?

It didn't look much like a photo to start with and if you look at the full sized version that charcoal effect goes away. The 83 year old lady doesn't seem to mind at any rate and her opinion is of far greater value than yours. Maybe you just need a better prescription in your hipster NHS glasses.

And do you have NooSixty's login details or does she just follow every post you make and thank it?

    Hahahaha.

Maybe I have IrishJay's login too?

If the eyes are the first thing people look at in a portrait they'd wonder why you'd given him black buttons for eyes? That was the first thing I noticed.

Now, there is no need to start getting personal, slanging cuss words at me in your response, or to even make a personal attack on something as childish, as to me wearing glasses.

I don't think I've had NHS glasses since I was about 10 years old. So I'm sure that prescription would be out of date. I'd be hard pressed to be able to get NHS glasses when I'm on the southern hemisphere too.

Your posts are always good for a chuckle, thanks! :D:D:D

Didn't change the eyes at all other than removing the damage around them - if that's the first thing you "noticed" then glasses are the least of your worries. Speaking of which - I doubt if anyone falls for your fake-ignorance act any more.

Why are you so angry at me? Where is the hate coming from?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,407 ✭✭✭Promac

I don't like you much but I don't hate you and I'm not angry with you. I think you're peculiar, insecure and manipulative and I don't like how you try to engineer peoples' responses in this group so you occasionally annoy me. That what you're lookin for?

Come on guys, let's get this back on topic. Debate the image and techniques used to retouch, but please let's not make it personal.

You do not have to like each other but if intervention is required then you're both going to dislike the outcome.

    Thanks in advance.

You don't even know me. Those on here that do would disagree.

I don't try to engineer anything. I give an honest and open opinion. Some people perceive that as being harsh, or trolling. I don't make a point without being able to give reason for it or being able to justify it.

I'm glad you don't hate me. I don't think I've done anything to warrant it from you personally. I quite enjoy our rapport.

Some people take net forums far too seriously, don't you think?

Sometimes it takes a peculiar mind to see things in a different way.

Don't get me wrong Pete - I see these forums as more like a bunch of people in the pub and sometimes that means shouting across the table to call someone out when they're being a prat. Doesn't mean you want them to go away or be someone else. Doesn't mean you have to like them either though and if we can agree to not be the same person but not get too miffed if either of us tells the other we're being a prat then I think we'll survive without CabanSail having to boot us off the board.

NooSixty - I'm perfectly serious. Very rarely does Pete post here without you thanking it. You should probably just drop it though to be honest. You're currently in full on sidekick mode and I seriously doubt if anyone here sees you as anything else. I used to wonder if you were just an alter-ego of Pete's that he would use to stir things up. I'm only just convinced you're not.
