Only one place doing it in the whole of Cork County and that's in Youghal...no way am I going to Youghal (ever)

Nowhere in Sligo doing it... our only ITICA chipper shut down late last year!

But yeah.. another day of chippers having a queue of 20 - 30 people out the door to save a feckin' fiver.

I saw some non-ITICA chippers do it last year, probably worried about losing regulars to another competitor. You might get lucky.

    2 in Dublin 7 :D...but I'll be 2500 miles away:mad:

Yeah, if you check last years thread you might see some who might do it again. Some give half price on everything too, burgers etc.

The massive queues are a sign of this being a genuine half price offer, unlike pizza where 'half price' is the norm, it is also shows many chippers are pretty good value compared to other takeaways but it goes unnoticed since they do not fill your door with bogus deal flyers, so you rarely see them posted here. Many chippers will do a good pizza at half the price of the 'junk mail outlets' (dominoes etc), without forcing you to buy 2 of them.

I have never availed of these chipper day deals due to the queues.

    Nowhere in Galway City.
And nowhere in Kilkenny City even though there is Mario's, Roma Cafe, Rocco's and Joe's, who I all thought were Italian chippers! :pac:

best chance of avoiding the queues is to buy from one of the ones that opens for lunch (eg. Libero's in Deansgrange)

You have probably heard this before Basq, but I just seen your post and had to track it down. Its a radio gag that has a reference to "liver" somewhere in there. Very funny;)

Why would you buy chips from a non-italian chipper?

I heard many were bad at lunch too though, i.e. 1-2pm, best time is probably just at opening many open about 12. You could also try about 3 o'clock if possible or later at night, but many will have ran out by then.

Liberos often have specials some days, and not just mon/tues/wed

    e.g. today
    Libero's Takeaway Deansgrange
todays special is cod portion & chips € 4.50 euros

Order for delivery or collection just call 01-2895098
cod portion is like a giant fish finger in batter.
    last friday
todays special is fillet of cod & chips € 6.90 euros

    http://www.facebook.com/pages/Liberos-Takeaway-Deansgrange/181545721875885

Macaris across the road have lower prices in general, and I prefer their chips. They do a 'jumbo box' for €18, which is 10 chicken pieces (including 2 breasts) & 4 bags of chips worth divided in 2 big boxes. In liberos the same is €28 (2 family boxes)

Many Italian chippers are not in the ITICA

    Cod Portion & Chips
€3. Every Day, for month now.
    Guilio's in D15.
    Yum.

    Perhaps they deliver.

I'll make some enquires...wonder what they would charge  Might take the good out of the BA though.

There's not a chipper to be found in Slovakia...maybe thats the business opportunity I need to keep my in-laws happy.

A fiver for fish and chips - try more like 8.50 !

so the saving is only 4.25 then, that's what he's getting at, saving per person at half price, its not free.

Even if it was free I dunno if I could handle the queues, just not worth my time.

    1 x Fish and Chips = 8.50

    2 x Fish and Chips = 17.00

Pay 8.50 for 2 x fish and chips on the day.

    A saving of 8.50 :pac::pac:

I honestly don't get the whole Italian chipper thing, why do people rate them so highly?
I find all of them fairly hit and miss tbh, there's a few decentish ones but that wouldn't be my normal experience.

As for the offer, like Rubadub, I wouldn't be bothered wasting half an hour to save €4.25. I think in general though they're pretty expensive, maybe dropping a yo yo or two off their normal weeknight prices wouldn't do them any harm.

For anyone in Sligo, Molly's Diner are doing half-price fish & chips today to compete with ITICA's promotion.

Actually burdocks do not appear to be in the ITICA, not sure if they were Italian. As I was saying before just since a chipper is not a paid up member and appearing on the website list it doesn't meant they are not doing it.

Exactly! Mizzonis and Fortes in Rathgar are not listed on the ITICA website but have signs up today to say they are offering the deal.

On a side note looks like the itica.ie is down at the moment.

My local chipper were doing it (proper authentic italian chipper), the q was out the door. He even had a female singer and guitarist outside keeping us entertained and then he comes out with bottles of water for anyone in the q who wanted one. Lovely grub too.

My local Borza taking part today, but in aid of Debra Ireland.

Was amazed that Dooleys in Tramore were doing it. On a normal day they have queues outside the door so they definitely didn't need to do it. Good will we go far though and I absolutely devoured it so I did!
