Holyhead to Conwy

Lift required for 2 people from Holyhead to Conwy (or as close to) at approx midnight on the 18th of May.

We plan to get either the last Irish Ferries or Stena Line Ferry from Dublin to Holyhead on the Friday night. We are racing (sailing) from Conwy to Howth on the Saturday morning.

Would happily contribute to fuel costs etc.

This may be of no use to you but always nice to have a backup plan. There is a 04:25 (05:13 arr) service from Holyhead to Llandudno junction which is just across the river from Conwy. Current fare is £12:80

    Have you booked?

There's the small matter of a Heineken cup final on in London on Saturday at 5pm and you may find those boats are busy!

I'd be trying to nail down a plan soon if I were you.

Cheers flyingsnail, I had seen that alright, a bit late/early though, we will be up at 07:00 getting ready for a 100 mile race.

I think if worse comes to worse I will have to organise a taxi, the problem then is that it is expensive.

Assuming you can get on the ferry in the first place, virtually all car and truck traffic will be heading that way along the A55 anyway, so you could just risk it and try approaching people on the ferry to see if you can cadge a lift.

Trains stop at Conwy. Why dont you go earlier? stay the night in Conwy and be all sorted for the race in the morning.

Time constraints, I am in Fermanagh until 17:00.

Can you cancel the booking and go by stena from Dublin port at 02:15?

If you are going for the ferry then perhaps book a through sail and rail ticket; boat and train ticket in one and for bugger all. If you have not booked yet, that is.

Why don't you overnight in Holyhead and catch the boat as it sails past in the morning ? Or just get the ferry back. :p

But seriously, do what would Sherlock would do. Eliminate all the impossible options until only the possible remain.

    1) Train when you arrive - impossible, there is none
    2) Train at 0425 - possible, you might lose out on some beauty sleep, but you will get there, guaranteed.
    3) Lift from some random person on the boat - possible, but there may be others who are looking to do the same thing and who will split the petrol all the way to London. And you have to contend with rugby fans out for the weekend who might promise you a lift, but then find they've no room, or they forget you, etc . . .
    4) Bus - possible, but unlikely. Check out Eurolines. I have my doubts that they serve the mini-metropolis that is Conwy, but you could convince the driver to let you off as he will be passing (near).
    5) Taxi - possible, but expensive and there may not be any there when you arrive
    6) Bring your own car - possible if there is still space (H-Cup weekend) and possibly cheaper than a taxi, but you have to get it back from Conwy

I reckon you are actually likely to get a lift from someone on the boat if you try hard enough, but it could be a pain having to go around asking everyone. If that fails, the train at 0425 will get you there for sure. I gave a lift to two guys who sat on the ferry to France last Summer with a placard saying "Looking for a lift to Bordeaux, will pay tolls" I had an emptyish car and it suited me to have someone to talk to for the drive so it worked for them.

There is a thread in the Sports/Rugby forum where people are talking about their Heineken Cup travel plans. Perhaps if you post there, you may get a response from someone going via Holyhead.

But seeing as you yourself aren't actually going to the Heineken Cup, perhaps you should ask the mod first if its ok to post it.
