In the 2001 to early 2005 there were 2 1.9 TDi models, a 115bhp and a 130bhp version. I think the 130bhp was available in both 5 and 6 speed. The 115bhp was definately 5 speed.

In mid 2005 the A4 got facelifted and they dropped the 130bhp 1.9 TDi and replaced it a 2.0 TDi which was 6 speed. The old 1.9 TDi 115bhp continued with a 5 speed gearbox.

Which version are you looking at?

Im looking for the newer model i think its a nicer looking car. I wonder would the 2.0tdi be much harder to insure and tax than 1.9tdi?
Is the 115bhp the standard model?

In your opinion would the 6speed be much of an advantage economy wise?

My wifes Passat has the 2.0TDI engine and she gets anything from 1,000-1,100kms to a full tank. She does all long distance driving though.

The 115bhp was not always available. The pre-facelift models had 100bhp as a base engine.

its the trim level you need to look at for the likes of cruise etc. not sure what the names of the trim levels were in the audi but cruise control was a cheap retrofit

Was told by an ex audi/volkswagen car sales man that the 1.9 diesels dont give problems but the 2.0ltr ones do. He is a friend of mine was not trying to sell anything to me

If you are going for a 2.0 ltr, keep away from the BLB engine code. They are supposed to give a lot of trouble as they were the first 2.0 ltr and were later perfected. But I think all the 05 models will probably be BLB.

Most Irish ones are bog standard with windup rear windows, no stereo controls on the steering wheel or front arm rest. UK models are higher spec but these cars are easy to clock as their interiors wear very well. The Quottros are rare but a bonus if you can find one.

    Also avoid "Felt" spec ones:http://www.octane.ie/news/article.php?id=587
They are generally treated like they are a weapon of mass destruction meaning they could have had the nuts driven out of them.

Audi A4 SE is what you're looking for
    1.9tdi

    with cruise, bose speakers,
can get up to 1,160km per tank. (I know I do)
I'd import one if I were you, and could find a good one
