Which car would you choose?

    Car #1:

    BMW 325ci
    • Best price from the dealer - €5,450
    • No tax, NCT up in September 2013
    • 2003
    • M sport spec
    • 5 speed manual
    • 75k miles
    • Full BMW service history
    • Full leather grey sports seats & interior.
    • Electric memory seats & mirrors
    • Interior is immaculate
    • Several chips on the front driver side wing showing primer - would be touched up by dealer if necessary
    • Few other bits & bobs including a deep enough scratch/touch-up job on the bonnet. All standard fare.
    • Wheels in decent enough condition, not much kerbing and no bubbling

    BMW 330ci
    • Best price from the dealer - €4,950
    • No tax, NCT due in March 2013. Passed NCT on April 10th 2012 (brought by the dealer) but backdated to March '11.
    • 2003
    • M sport spec
    • 5 speed manual
    • 75k miles
    • Selling garage has service history from ~35k, other garage has the ones before
    • Full leather cream sports seats & interior
    • Electric memory seats & mirrors
    • Interior is very well kept - few scuffs on the carbon fiber of the door handles on both sides, bit of wear on the side of the drivers seat.
    • 3 or 4 small stone chips on the bonnet, showing rust. Typical of the E46 ? Basing assumptions on the E46 320d parked outside which has similar stone chips w /rust
    • Wheels in very good condition, minimal kerbing and no bubbling
    • Slightly sagging front bumper on passenger side - can fix this myself as there's a few guides.

I should mention that insurance on the two is the exact same, and from what I know the MPG would be very similar too. Tax is different though, obviously. I'll be putting on about 5,000 miles a year.

So there's the current choices, test drove the two motors. Managed to really push the 330ci this evening, was very impressed especially with top end power. Didn't get to do the same in the 325ci but still very impressed with it.

What would you go for, and why? Just trying to see if there's nothing I've considered or if I'm thinking too much into certain aspects (e.g. the body imperfections etc - my 206 has loads of 'em ;))

    Big difference from the 206!

Go for the 330 - you know you want to!

Neither at those prices, the dealer(s) saw you coming.

If you don't care about tax an mpg at the moment then get the faster one

    I want a green 330 coupe

Oh and yup it does seem those are high prices for "big" petrol engines

Seems very expensive to me tbh.

What'd be your price so, were you looking for one of the above? Same question for yourself there Alan :)

Well if they were for sale privately you'd struggle to shift them for €1000 to €1500 less each, no benefit in buying yokes like that off a dealer.

The "best" prices are how much lower than the screen prices ? :)
I can't see anyone buying them for those prices off the dealer either.

Ignore my opinion, but keep in mind Alan has spent the last while looking at these very cars.

Dealers best prices seem to be very round numbers :p

The 325ci is going for €5,950, the 330ci was going for €5,500 but the seller dropped it on carzone yesterday to €5,000.

I'm aware there's a lot of dreamers out there, but even the higher mileage M-sports from private folks seem to go for €4.5-€5k+ like this one for example.

I'm in no mad rush to purchase by the way, so if the advice is sit on it for a while I can do that. Very much appreciate the responses so far :)

So the best price for the 330 is the advertised price?

Do keep in mind asking prices and what cars go for are not at all the same thing :)

Pretty much, knocked €100 off. But he did tell me he dropped it from €5500 just to shift it so there wasn't much room for manoeuvring. Maybe I'm just a terrible haggler :pac:

There doesn't seem to be any m-sport '03 models (similar mileage or not) going for near the €3.5-4k you were saying you'd be expecting though

That's the thing though, if they're up for higher prices, they're not going either.

This one was up for sale when I was looking for mine, and the ad was 3 months + old when it was up. They've obviously just reuploaded it after getting no interest. Car looks great, but that price is just not happening. It's over 2 grand more than what i paid for mine. And is it 2 grand more of a car? I don't think so.

Come to the meet and you can have a gander at mine sure.

Honest question - what would you pay for that? Consider the increased spec, facelift, two year age difference and [possible] lower mileage? I do hear what you're saying, it's half the reason I made this thread; to see if I was crazy even considering the prices when I know what you & conzy paid for both of yours. Like I said I'm in no rush, I've been sitting on this since February and have no bother cooling the jets for a while longer; I guess I just don't want to be holding out for a €3.5k car that'll never come.

    Where would you get a 2003 325/330i M-Sport for between €1000-€1500? :)

He said less, as in less than the prices I've been given. So around €4000

Eh, he said between 1000/1500 LESS than the 5k asking price. Not 1000/1500 for the car...

Hahaha, it looks like we were layin' into you there a bit...really I just posted a bit too late after touchingVirus!

Anyway, the engine in the 325 is just unreal. I've been grinning like an idiot every time I drive mine!

Deservedly so, it was a stupid point of me to make didn't even read it properly. So the 325 has a bit more go than the granny wagon then yeah? :pac:

OP, here is a 04 325ci, I'm sure you would buy it for close to what you would be paying from a garage for the 03. This one going by the description sounds like it is coming from a good home:

Yeah, I wouldn't pay that much money for a 318ci to be honest even though it looks mint.

    It's a 325 or a 330ci for me :)
