    in this epoch?

    Are there any estimates?

    What defines a 'film'?

    Is it just feature films (70 mins+) or do you include short films too? What about home movies? Are they counted? Comedy sketches made by amateurs?

    IMDB reliably informs me that there are 196,878 titles that come under the heading of Short Films/Feature Films/Documentaries/TV Specials released between 1900 to 2012 that have a run time greater than 40 minutes and a released production status. :D

    There are tens of thousands of films that are not listed on imdb so at best it's a rough estimate as to the total number of films ever made.
