    Hi there, I was looking for some advice on getting back on the road.Hope somebody could help. Basically I was convicted for Drink Driving and driving with no Insurance over 4 years ago. I had a provisional License at the time.(I still have this altough its expired now). My 3 year ban has passed now over a year and I am trying to get back driving. My question is how do I go about getting a new License, do i need to take lessons again or do i just apply for a third provisional as I still have my second one. im confused?

    hmmm.. consult your motor tax office, you might have a bit longer off the road.

    i always thought that you had to have an in-date licence while your ban was in force.
    ie, licence expires , the ban is on hold

    Much like someone who gets a driving ban while not having a licence, will have their ban start when they apply for a licence

    * i could be wrong

    If I was you I would look into the costs before spending money on lessons. Your insurance will be a few grand a year.

    Isn't there some kind of a 5 year statute of limitations on such things for insurance?

    My insurance company asked Have you ever... for drink driving. But Have you, in the last 5 years.. for everything else.
    I know this cos a friend of mine wanted to get insured with them but had an accident 6 years ago and they said as long as it wasn't drink driving it doesn't matter.

    Two mistakes you also had no insurance.

    We don't know his exact circumstances, it could have been that he had one too many when he drove his heavily intoxicated friend's car.

    it was a once of bad decision i drove a friends car after a party. i had no insurance and was over the limit and im lucky no one was hurt. i was never in trouble with the law before or since, paid the fine and the ban is up. i just want to get things sorted now and put it behind me

    Good for you, and all the best.

    Insurance wise it'll be a bit difficult and pricey at least for a while.
