Screen Grab Format - Stuck on Tiff

    Hi all,

I've tried a load of different ways to change the format of screen shots on the Mac from tiff to jpeg. Much of what Ive tried was done through the terminal.
I got an app called TinkerTool which lets me set the format to Jpeg also.

However no matter what, it always remains at tiff.
Can anyone let me know what else I could try?

    Thanks!

Thought it defaulted to png format?

Have you done the defaults thing?

    More here.

Open the tiff in Finder using Preview if this is not your default. Save as jpg or whatever format you require... shazam!

If you are using the Applications/Utilities/Grab utility then there appears to be no way to change it's default save format (.tiff).

If, however, you are using the screen capture utility by using the various key combinations listed here then you can change the default format from .png to .jpg using the commands mentioned in the tools and terminal commands you've tried.

I've tied the commands and they do work on Snow Leopard (10.6.8) at least.

Edit: Until you run the terminal commands to change something then there is no com.apple.screencapture.plist file in the <user>/Library/Preferences folder.
