    Stewart Downing £16m - 0 goals, 0 assists

Up there with Andy Caroll as the single worst signing of the season?

    6 goals £35m

James McClean £350,000 6 goals, multiple assists

    lol!

Is anyone going to be held to account at Liverpool for being fleeced for two of the most useless players in the EPL?

Liverpool Director of Football Damien Comolli sacked as owners react to failed transfers and desperate run of results
Liverpool have sacked Director of Football Damien Comolli after the club's owners, Fenway Sports Group, reviewed the club's failure in the transfer market that saw high-profile and expensive acquisitions such as Andy Carroll contribute to a chastening season in the Premier League.

Andy Carroll worst signing? You're having a laugh and I'm not judging that on recent weeks either.

It would be interesting though to see how many assists Downing gave to Suarez et al when they missed an incredible amount of sitters all season

Fantasy football credits him with 2 assists in the league at least

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    Just read the OP again.

You must not know much about football.

    As Comolli said,

"60% of the time, it works every time"

You're looking for the number of passes he's made.

Sorry yeah last January. Still does not change the stats. How can anyone pay £35m for a player like Caroll? Not that any player is worth that sort of money but that's another argument.

    Downing cost Liverpool £20m?

Food for thought - His replacement at Villa is Charles N'Zogbia. £10m, 2 goals & 4 assists. Quite the flop indeed, but not as bad as ol' Stu.

Having said that, Downing will probably come good next year if his time at Villa is anything to go by.

Its all good though. he got a new boot deal and signed a few autographs once for a few norweigans so kenny is happy with him.

Very possiblly, in fairness though, winning a penalty is as good as a good pass in terms of setting up a goal.

So what happens when you repeatedly get the ball to the stikers and they **** up? But for so many missed chances, Liverpool players, Downign included , would have had plenty of assists.

Simialr amount of goals to Torres, no? Looks like Liverpool got a bargain. Could have parted woth 50m for the same return.

Op maybe you should have started this thread about 6 months ago. Liverpool paid way too much for Carroll but he has been one of their best players in recent months. I agree with you about Downing though. One of the most useless soccer players ever to wear the Liverpool shirt IMO.

Also Comolli is out the door and Kenny could be leaving soon so people are being held to account. Great thread though.

You been in hiding the past month?!!

He's been inconsistent for years. The perfect example of a confidence player. Liverpool bought him on the strength of his last season at Villa in which he was their player of the season, but putting him into a team with a brand new midfield, under pressure to reach the top 4 and with a £20m price-tag weighing on his head, he soon crumbled. Things only got worse when draw after draw at Anfield saw the whole team under serious scrutiny. Not exactly the type of player you want in a pinch.

Hopefully Stoke or someone will spunk £12m or something on him this summer, or a better manager can get something out of him at Liverpool.

Well, tbh it's a fairly big issue. It's a complete waste of so much money. It only damages the clubs at the end of the day. It is not ONLY Liverpool. These two players are just a prime example of the problems in football that one day will have clubs going bankrupt.
