Hey folks, Im Darren, originally from Lobinstown, Meath but living in Ardee, Louth and i'm a newb to running and my first target is the Braveheart 5k in Trim on Fri 15th June.

Just after reading the local papers and i cant believe the recent fixture congestion:

    Boyne 10k on Sunday

    Kells 5k on Monday

Dundalk Half Marathon and 10k on Wednesday night

Is this normal or would it not suit the athletics clubs of Meath and Louth to organise these events at bit better to give people a chance to run all 3? im sure a lot of people did at least two of them (I know a few did Kells and Dundalk) but this cant be good for running if everyone is trying to outdo each other?

Yeah it's a fair point but I don't think it's a problem that's confined to the north east. The racing calender is very busy with so many races added in recent years so a bit clashing is inevitable. I don't think the Kells race is such an issue because it's a fair spin from Dundalk (I didn't even know it was on) but I live between Drogheda and Dundalk so choosing between the Dundalk 1/2 and Drogheda 10k is always an issue as they are both great events. It's just a case of choosing you favourite race, and the good thing is if you choose to race the 10k for example, you won't have to wait long to find another 5k or 10k somewhere else.

Only one of these is organised by an athletic club AFAIK.

Further to that the Drogheda one is an AAI approved date (as is Kells) and coincides with he Drogheda festival which is always on the May weekend.

You must be a member of DDAC? ;)

I don't know anything about the Kells race but I've run the Dundalk 1/2 marathon several times and it's a quality event, it's got a different vibe to a club race but a quality event all the same, and most of the club runners there (including myself) will testify to that. As is the Boyne 10k, a quality event organised by a great club. Just a case of choosing the race you want, just don't let the lack of club organisation put you off the Dundalk 1/2 (or just do both like I did last year!).

I've done both in the past and will do so again. The more events the better really. The reference to being club organised was in response to the OP.
