What constitutes a Full Service History

I'm in the market for a car at the moment and have looked at a few cars in the 06-08 bracket. Lots of cars seem to be advertised as with Full Service History but when you check the book there are large gaps and the servicing isn't to schedule.

Obviously you would tend to may a small premium for a car with FSH but at what point should I be arguing that what they have in th book doesn't constitute FSH? One car I looked at had no record of a service until 56k Km!

    Thanks

FSH means that the car has has documented proof of having been serviced as per the manufacturers recommendations. It doesn't have to be from a main dealer, but it does have to be complete. Unfortunately, in this country even the faintest scattering of stamps is often described as FSH. You need to assume that the seller is an uncooperative child and have them talk you through the history, then verify it by phone with the garage(s) who did the work, all this before getting up off the couch to view.

I'd look for a fully stamped service book, together with supporting origonal invoices.

OP: What you are looking at is a partial service history. Alot of sellers assume once it has a stamped book it's FSH. (They presume a buyer won't bother checking the details)

As stated above FSH is a fully stamped service book.
Very very rare in Ireland even when buying second hand from a dealer.

Service book stampped and filled in.
Large folder with every receipt for the car including wipers and bulbs :D

But that car does have 142k so i'd expect it to come with some material, for a typical car with 50k, once the service book is stamped its a good start, i could then ring the garages to confirm and maybe get invoices but alot will not give them out anymore due to data protection, so get the seller to get them prior to hand over for you.
