Expenses and Credit Cards.

Just need a bit of input on this.

As a family we're deeper in debt now, thanks to the dear old recession etc and, for the last year or so have an (in my view) significant balance due on my personal credit card.
I'm reducing this as and where I can but wife wants to cut it up to fully prevent spending on it and therefore I approached my company (small enough outfit) to request a company credit card that I can take abroad, use and return to their safe keeping after every trip. All expenses would be as normal, vouched etc but they're refusing and pushing me to take a credit card in my name specifically for use with company business.
I travel extensively and on the odd occasion where I'm late submitting the expenses, or the finance manager is travelling, the expenses can be overdue.

In this day and age I do not want to be difficult but its a balancing act between work and home and if I'm honest, I see no reason to not be named on a company card and I'm not inclined to take another card when I want to remove this one, backed or not by the company..

    Any views ?

    Thanks

    FBP.

My company provides a credit card in our name which we have to pay. But does not affect our credit rating. To be honest, I find using my own credit card easier.

I can't see any company agreeing to give you a credit card in the companies name to spend when travelling for work. The risk that you spend up to the limit and then abscond (I've seen this happen) is too great.

What we do is if we incur interest charges on work balances is that they the interest submitted as expenses the following month. Its a great incentive for my boss to sign them off promptly!! Maybe you could suggest this?

there was a post on this recently. i will say the same thing.

get a new card, but make sure you highlight to your expenses manager that this card will be for use solely for the company as the will not offer a company card.

then keep your receipts and all that jazz and submit the entire card bill at the end of the month with all interest and that accrued.

it should then be up to the manager to sign off on it, or else incur the interest.

if they cant do this simple task they may not be worth working for

I had over €4000 of expenses for a company on my own credit card when the company went bust. I never got a penny. Never again will I use my own credit card for expenses.

I worked in accounts, DO NOT ever never get a credit card in your name for use on company expenses as said already in this day and age you can run up the bill the company goes bust and your left owing a lot of money not good

What I always done (small companies) was when a person was booking somewhere or flights or whatever I would give them the credit card details, they would then book whatever it was and forward the confirmation to me for accounts

If they where going away and needed spends then they got per diems for the trip, and had to have receipts for every single penny, if they went over their per diems they filled out another expense sheet attached receipts and submitted it to me on their return, which I would then reimburse to them

When a company is telling you to get another credit card for company use red flags should be waving in front of your eyes, say whatever you have to say to get out of it but do not do it

What about suggesting to them that they issue you with a travel advance such and than when you return and unspent funds are returned and what you did.spend is acquitted against the advance. Get anything which can be paid in advance paid by the company such as flights and accommodation and then they can decide a fair rate for meals and incidentals, say€150 per day or whatever. Keep receipts and whatever extra is unspent funds(if any) you return to them
