Can anyone recommend a bike seat for a toddler - 16months - One that goes between me and the handle bars.

I presume it wont go on a carbon road bike , so would need it to work on a felt hardtail Q720

    Cheers

Does it interfere with your knees? Do you have to use flat pedals with this?

I second the Weeride recommendation. Although beware of the fixing screw from the seat into the weeride crossbar as it does not enter very deeply into the crossbar and my guy (once) managed to flip the seat upsidedown (while stationary) Beware of leaning children !!

Just FYI - the rear mounting ones, like the Hamax Sleepy have a longer life, as they will take larger children - up to about4 or 5 maybe.

I like the idea of the crossbar-mounted ones in that you can talk to each other and enjoy the spin much more. They also reduce the risk of forgetting the child is there and administering a rear roundhouse kick to the head while dismounting.

My little one sits on the back and loves it

I've never once forgotten she was there and neither will you. The only issue is she has gotten in the habit reaching inside putting her freezing cold hands on my nice warm back.

I haven't tried the front ones but i always imagined they would be awkward for any child over a given size. Loads of room out the back on the other hand.

The Weeride is narrow enough to cycle relatively comfortably but you wont be winning any races with it. They also 'guarantee' that it will fit up to 4yrs old (although I doubt that tbh).

I reckon front mount is more enjoyable for both adult and child with much better centre of gravity.

My wee chick is 5 so maybe not completely relevant but .. I've been using a much simpler version of the crossbar carriers for about a year, only problem is I have to drop the saddle a lot so I can get feet down to the ground, I cant shuffle forward anymore with babbie there obviously. Its actually a substantial enough problem if the saddle is high.
Other wise - as said by Manwithaplan its a great way to have a chat with the little one and she feels very safe there between my arms. It really reinforces the 'My Daddy the hero/protector' image which is ok by me...
Also it seems to make the bike invulnerable to theft for some reason.

pennys worth.. id stick him him on the back.. and get a recliner one.. kids fall asleep on bikes and nothing worse than cycling along with his head hanging over banging into your saddle.. recliners have them in a better position.....

I have a Co-Rider and my little one loves it. Brought her out for a spin late week and I have to go up and down the street 8 times. Every time I stopped: "again, again, again"....

Dunno are they suitable for under 2's though

Whatever happened to wrapping a towel or jumper around the crossbar and holding it with tape ! Got me and my dad from Tallaght to Crumlin a few times, but granted, my ass suffered and my dad got the odd head in the chin as I shuffled to get comfortable.

Seriously though, there was a recent thread where a guy was looking for a particular brand of seat which Cycle Superstore had out of stock, I was looking at them myself. I didn't think you'd get much wear out of the cross bar ones.
