Pro rata pension entitlements

    Hello all,

This query may have already been answered in this forum so I apologise for any duplication of effort your help may involve.

My wife is 62 years old and will (hopefully) qualify for a pro rata pension when she reaches 66. She will have an average of about 20 contributions per annum at that time. I hope to retire at about the same time and will have a private pension but with no entitlement to a state pension, pro rata or otherwise because I will not have sufficient A stamps at that point.

My question is can my wife claim for me as a "qualifying adult" on her pro rata entitlement, and what is the likely value of that claim if there is any, and finally will the claim be means tested?

Increase for an adult dependant on contributory oap is means tested.

Thanks for your reply eastbono - does this mean that an "increase" is all thats means tested and that there is some kind of basic entitlement that is not means tested?

At the minute 20 to 29 stamps per year will get a pension of €196.00 (your wife's entitlement) Qualified adult rate under 66 €130,over 66 €175.
