There's a lad on donedeal selling them. He's in dublin somewhere but reasonably priced and quick to post too.

You can buy third party cables that work with the 'lite' version of VCDS (it hasn't been called VAG-COM for a long time due to trademark infringement issues). Functionality is limited even if you purchase the software licence, and IME they don't work properly with every car. Data logging in particular is flaky as hell.

It worked fine for my car, so I didn't mind. I still ended up buying the proper Ross-Tech cable at a later stage (they'll credit the cost of the licence against the cost of a full cable too). When you consider the cost of main dealer diagnostics, it's a bargain :) Plus it's needed for a lot of servicing procedures these days.

They only work with cracked software, which means you're putting your car at risk from both a non-genuine cable and software that's been tampered with. Far too easy to end up bricking your car to take the risk in my opinion.
Your car isn't an iphone . You won't brick it but the software may or may not work

Translated into normal language it goes something like "The guy in Donegal probably has a nice little business going remapping diesel Volkswagens. They go faster after the remap due to the increased horsepower and torque"

    :)

It's a joke if i have to explain it to you then you are not getting the joke. :D

If you were in Kildare i'd clear any codes for less than 30 euro but donegal is too far away.Anyway seems you got sorted.
