    Hi,

Considering a trip to Hockenheim this year, has anyone been before? Any suggestions/recommendations on where to stay etc?

    Cheers,

    Gareth

Went there a few years ago with Travel Department, stayed in Mercure Wings hotel in Raunheim, its not far from Frankfurt.Left for the track each morning at about 6.30am to ensure getting there by 8am, cos the circuit is approx 1 hour away and traffic is very heavy the nearer you get to the circuit especially on raceday and also so as not to miss any of the support races/qualifying,it was a package trip so there was a guide on both Sat/Sun and we left the circuit each day around 4.30-5pm.I would recommend it to anyone interested in going to a grand prix.Check out their website.

I've not been to Hockenheim but have went to a couple of races with the Travel Department and would agree with Ficus. I went to Brazil 06 with them and found them to be decent(it could have been better considering how expesive it was though) but also went to Italy in 07 for the MotoGP and F1. The trip to Italy was a shambles, the hotel in Rimini was probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed in and the one in Milan was out by the airport on a motorway and there was nothing near it. None of the people on the trip were happy with it at all. Organizing your own is a much better option imo.

I found them okay on both my trips to German grand prix in hockenheim and nurburgring, and found them great, both hotels we stayed in were near loads of facilities.....we have attended races since by booking tickets, flights and accomodation online and it does work out cheaper but for anyone going to a race for the first time its ideal as everything is arranged for you,

Thanks for the replies! We decided to organise it ourselves and booked it yesterday.

We're flying over on the Thursday (returning Sunday evening) and so will be at the track for pit lane walk etc. We're staying in an apartment in Frankfurt and have tickets for the Mercedes Stand Lower.

Really looking forward to it now, thanks again for the replies.

Think I might head to Hockenheim myself, where's the best place to stay?

Have flights, car and accommodation booked for Hockenheim, just tickets left to book. Are the tickets at the front of the Grandstand really that bad? First grand prix and reading online that its tough to see through the fences?

Heidelberg is the nice historical town to stay if visiting hockenheim

Hockenheim used to be a beautiful old blindingly fast circuit, with sweeping long beds and long straights, followed by a twisty stadium section, the bike gp in particular, and cars alike were close, fast, slipstreaming, exciting racing.
Now since the powers that be at F1 a few years ago ordered it's destruction and spoiled the flat out high speed antics and vandalised one of the last classic fast circuits, it's just a glorified kart track!
I just hope they leave Monza alone

Does anyone know if there are any decent campsites in the vicinity of Hockenheim?
