its a 2004 with 80k odd on clock - engine failed otherwise in perfect working order :D body is fine on it etc. what should i be looking for as the minute i ring up a breakers yard they start asking me what I;m looking for - now i was told that I should be looking for 1500 - i personally think this is crazy. I could, I know leave it go for nothing but in this day and age a few euros wouldn't go astray!

I would say more like €500-€1000 but you don't mention what model Mazda it is so hard to give any estimate.

A reconditioned engine is a safer bet long term than getting one from a scrap yard which could go on you a week after you fit it.

I think the OP wants to sell the car to them rather than buy an engine off them :)

Ah right, I read it wrong.

Donedeal price for working one, and ncted is between 2-3000 euros. If someone offered me 1500 for non-runner, i would be more than happy.
BTW, i initially thought you were asking them about engine, it wasn't very clear from your post...

Realistically, I don't think a breakers yard would give you between 500-1000 euro. I've heard about breakers giving a lot less than they quoted after taking the car to their yard. If you do get a good price from them could you let us know?

    Thanks.

Apologies it was meant to say what price should I be looking for. Half asleep writing the post.
    Basically I have mazda 6 2004 1.8 - the engine failed - my fault!
Everything else in working order, it doesn't have tax on it.
And I've been ringing around breakers yards and other garages. They all ask me what price I would be looking for but that's the thing I don't know!
The mechanic that looked at the car said it's worth 1500 - now I seriously doubt that, though if i got it - happy days.
What I wanted to know was the price I should look for or is it worth anything?!
Thanks Atlantic Dawn I think thats more realistic and I feel the 1500 makes me look like an eejit!

    In short:
I want to sell the car as it is - I have a new car and don't know anyone that would do it up for me!

Spend €3 and stick it up on Donedeal at €1500, if no offers come in drop the price to €1200.
Easy to do and you don't have to feel like a twat ringing round and probably have to deliver too.

If you could sell it for parts yourself, you'd probably make a good amount! I was recently offered an insulting 200 euro for my old B5 Passat (engine gone, too). I was told a breakers yard would give me about 400- max.

Maybe you'd do better as your car's not as old, and Mazda parts would be harder to come by. I hope you have some success parting ways with your old roller. Let us know how you get on.
