Nice one! Have to say, would love a crack at one over the summer. Have heard lots of good things about the meat, but you can report back soon enough on that one! The venison in the freezer is looking a little thin, supplements are needed!

We went for a nice little walk up the hill and saw about 20 of them about 500 or 600 yards away with good cover close to them so after going back down the hill and driving to a better access point we went up the hill again and located them a little bit away from where we first saw them got into position and let the fun start. Anyway as Kildare.17hmr said we got 3 of them 1from the first position and the other 2 after a chase of about 100 yards or so. So there we were standing around shooting the breeze after gutting the 3 of them when suddenly beside us were another 5 or 6 goats lookng for their mates all we could do was laugh:D:D

    I don't hunt theese goats. I farm them. :D:D:D

Think I could manage that and It Wasn't me is coming another time but that must be the limit on this herd as I don't want to over do it and wipe them out all together, Have to give them time to breed and recover their numbers.

However I have another permission with goats on it I will be meeting the farmer in the next week or so and will ask him if it is ok to bring another gun onto the land, this one is in East Clare

Went out for a shot at a goat after work yesterday with German Pointer but no joy.

Even though we seen no goats and hunted in the strong wind and the rain on the side of a hill I really enjoyed the evenin and seein a nice fallow doe on the way down made the walk worthwhile!

    Thanks

Ha even in that weather I could hav stayed walking for the day up there, love walking hills!

True the best parts of hunting isn't the kill itself but the being out and about whether you are successful or not ;)

    Time for a thread revive.:)

Last evenings shooting up in my let.All within three minutes of each other.Have to say they are incredibly thick animals!! They were in a herd of four.I got to within 50 meters of them, somthing I have never managed with a deer.On the first shot and their pal being shot they run even closer to me,then stop and stare at me !!!By comparison a deer is a gifted intellectual.
It doesnt take long for them to gas up after being shot either which made the stinky job even more fun with their natural goaty ouder
made the gutting a more fun job more than usual with midges, black flies and gassy goats.Still as they say Happiness is a large gut pile.:D
More than happy that my freezer is now full again till deer season with tasty goat striplions and haunches, and the dog food bill will be lower with the rest of them for awhile.

Now can anyone tell me how do you prep a goat head for cleaning??Am going to try it as suggested here,by just leaving it outside and let nature take its course.Whats the average rot time for them and what do you do with them afterwards?Power wash, and peroxide??

We tried leaving deer heads in the wood and it was a terrible waste of two good heads the season just gone. they fell to bits and broke up into pieces.
You are better off boiling the head and peeling the skin and other bits off.

If you decide to just leave them outside to rot clean keep them somewhere where grass and stuff wont destroy them.

    nice shooting though
