Last year I paid VAT every 2 months - At the beginning of this year I remember getting notice saying it was now due "methinks 6 monthly"

just got notification stating VAT3 is due so I'm thinking maybe notice stated it was due every 4 months

Can anyone confirm the VAT3 period please?

Normally VAT returns are filed every two months, but Revenue can require you to file less frequently. It can be anything from two monthly to annually. If you are filing via ROS the online return should clarify the period. If Revenue are sending you forms they too should specify the period concerned. Otherwise a simple phone call to your VAT office should solve everything.

But thats the thing - I receive email stating VAT3 payment is due if it has not been paid for the period already, now I dont know what the period actually is and there is no pending VAT3 form

Have to say ROS is not the most user friendly to actually find required information

Log in to Ros; go to client revenue record; select returns (on the left).

This will list all returns filed, returns due, and returns late.

It changed last year from every 2 months to every 4 months. So you should have to submit a return this month for Jan->April.

If your not sure you could always ring Revenue 1890 203070 with your VAT number. That is the collector Generals office number.

It didn't change for everyone. Some people are on 2-monthly, some on 4-monthly, some 6-monthly, and some file annually.
