How is a match decided if the match is not played by the deadline date?

Coin Toss or you're both DQ'd. At discretion of appointed competition sec though I think

you conceded because your opponent could not make any suggested dates?

Both players scrapped from competition and player who you where due to play in the next round effictively gets a bye. although extreme circumstances may arise as to why the match was'nt played and there may be an exception, thats how it works (should) at my club

I dont know if the local rule has changed but it used to be down to the comp sec.

Typically if your opponent is constantly suggesting dates and trying to organise times and none suit you be a gent about it and concede.

If your stubborn about it the comp sec usually awards the match to the player who made the most attempts to organise the match. You will typically find its always one person organising ****.

I've had a few instances where I've been ringing and ringing and opponent couldnt play and then coneded.

Only one instance where a guy was stubborn about it and I had prepared for a bit of bargy as I was pissed I'd be DQ'd just because the other guy was working mad shifts. Comp Sec awarded me the match as my opponent agreed I'd made all the effort or organising times and dates

Not a nice way to win, but fairer then being DQ'd. Wouldnt be happy with that whatsoever

personal incident last week - match to be played by this weekend, last monday week I called opponent, no answer, then texted him with three dates. He replied, take a walk over I can't make it. Disappointing but fair play.

Last year, despite numerous attempts to contact opponent, I couldn't get in touch, so on the last day, I put my name up as the winner by default. Member of committee said if no name goes up, the guy in the next round gets a bye, so I didn't want that to happen. No issues arose.

If you actually want to play I'd give someone on the comps committee a call and let them know, its poor form on the other guys behalf, unless it doesnt actually have to be played for another couple of weeks.

If you are not bothered then just chalk it up to experience.

Has he actually put his name up yet?

    True story....

When i was in school (many moons ago) we had a schools matchplay competition. I got bye's all the way to the final, and eventually won the final 6 up. Couldn't really take too much pride in winning the whole thing after playing just one match, but still, a wins a win.

I think if you're making the effort to organise the match and your opponent isn't reciprocating that you should get a walkover.

i would contact your competition committee or club secretary and let them know the background.

it kinda sounds like the guy isn't interested.

    +1
if you have tried your best to arrange a time and date with someone and you are getting very little back i'd contact the organising committee and let them know the story. at least then you might have a better chance in the coin toss if you know what i mean ;););)

Had a situation where I got to semi final of matchplay and gave my opponent a walkover as I knew I would be away on the date of the final and felt it wouldn't have been fair had I beat him.

When I came back and checked the result, he also got a walkover in the final as his opponent couldn't make it. Really bugged me then as I could have taken my chances with the coin toss which is what happens in our club!

What if you were playing in the club championship tournament finals and the match was halved at the end of 17 holes.
You had the honor and hit your ball a modest two hundred fifty yards to the middle of the fairway, leaving a simple six iron to the pin.
Your opponent then hits his ball, lofting it deep into the woods to the right of the fairway.
Being the golfing gentleman that you are, you help your opponent look for his ball.
Just before the permitted five minute search period ends, your opponent says: “Go ahead and hit your second shot and if I don’t find it in time, I’ll concede the match.”
You hit your ball, landing it on the green, stopping about ten feet from the pin.
About the time your ball comes to rest, you hear your opponent exclaim from deep in the woods:
    “I found it!”.

The second sound you hear is a click, the sound of a club striking a ball and the ball comes sailing out of the woods and lands on the green, stopping no more than six inches from the hole.

Now here is the ethical dilemma:
Do you pull the cheating bastard’s ball out of your pocket and confront him with it or do you keep your mouth shut?

Where I used to play a couple of years back, it was a case of nobody had there rounds played on time and it was very common for players to play there matchplay during the weekly competition on a Sunday morning, playing both competitions at once. On one particluar occasion I was due to play a committee member and I was available all week but I refused to combine competitions on a Sunday morning. I was told I was been irrational by the club captain. On a seperate occasion I was leading golfer of the year gong into the final competition and 2 other members(both on the committee) combined the Sunday morning competition with there matchplay final. They finished 1st and 2nd in the singles competition and thereby one of them won golfer of the year by collecting points from both the singles competition and the matchplay final.
