I have a Dell laptop (Inspiron 6400), I tried to insert a cd into it but the unit won't open when I press the eject button. I badly need to upload the contents of the cd. Any advice? Thanks.

Get a usb stick, put the cd in another laptop and put the contents on the usb stick and put them on your own computer that way.

If it was me I'd probably force it a bit while trying to push down what ever is stuck or out of place with pokey things. I'd also probably give it a good rattle but no directs bangs. That's me, I wouldn't advise you to do it.

Thanks for that. I forgot about using a usb key. I tried applying light pressure to it but the plastic cover came off so I quit, I don't want to break it if possible.

Have you tried using a pin to open it via the eject hole?

I don't think I have anything small enough to fit into it, looks like I would need a pretty fine needle to insert into it. Will try it tomorrow.

Paper clip will fit in there perfectly as well.
