Hi All, first time poster in the forum and was wondering if ye could give me a little help with two problems I've been struggling with:
To compare two methods for training industrial workers to perform a skilled job, 10 workers are selected at random and trained by method 1; a further 10 workers are selected and trained by method 2. After completion of training, all workers are subjected to a time-and-motion test that records the speed of completion of a skilled job. The data obtained are shown in the table below.
Would you conclude that the mean job time is significantly less after training with method 1 than after training with method 2? Support your answer by using suitable hypothesis testing procedure(s).

    Method 1:15, 20, 11, 24, 15, 23, 17, 16, 27, 22.
    Method 2:23, 30, 21, 14, 18, 20, 28, 25, 27, 29.

Three laboratory technicians measure the breaking strength of linen thread, with the results as shown below. Carry out a one-way analysis of variance, and comment.

    Technician 1: 20.6, 24.7, 25.2, 19.3
    Technician 2: 20.7, 26.5, 23.4, 21.5
    Technician 3: 21.4, 24.3, 23.9, 20.6

I have to do these problems on minitab and tbh have no idea how to use the software so advice on either the way to do the questions in general or how to do them in the software would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    -Mack

Do you have to use minitab? :)

Cant help with the commands as I use stata, but it should be easy enough to google. Its been a long time since I used minitab, and I cant remember if it allows you to use dialogs also - if so, you may be able to click your way to the appropriate test. Otherwise, you need to find the appropriate command syntax.

You can test for equality of mean using an independent samples t-test on problem 1 (assuming groups 1 and 2 comprise different individuals).

If software is not critical and you have access to either stata or spss, let me know.
