Just bought something off eBay the eBay seller clearly states it is UK stock...
but.....NO!... its not from the uk its coming all the way from china.
No big deal however i could have just bought it cheaper from a china/Hong Kong seller
it is clearly stating it is from THe UK but just got the tracking number..
and its is coming from china.
If i get stung for tax should i give negative feedback ?

Sometimes companies like Simplyelectronics say they have UK stock to get users
to buy at their low prices. However this is not always the case. While they may
have some stock in the UK theres no guarantee that your item is there ready
    for dispatch.

In this case they send the item from China to their UK warehouse where its
repackaged and send on to its final destination. This means that you shouldn't
be charged any customs fees as the item is coming from within the EU.

Hope it works out for you. If its Simplyelectronics you bought from i'd strongly
recommend canceling your order and looking for a refund as they're dreadful!

I got caught with the same issue about 12 months ago. The customs slapped me with a 20 euro tax. I emailed customs to say the goods were advertised as UK based but they just replied to say they only cared where the product was coming from i.e china... therefore the tax applied. Put it down to a learning experience and moved on... Best check with the seller to make sure the product comes from within the EU in future...
You can give advice on the feedback page to warn others though...

    no ebay....
Seller clearly uses the union jack and the words UK stock clearly.

I bought off Chinese ebay sellers in the UK before no problem ..but this item is clearly coming out of China.
Hence i am probably going to get burnt by customs .

I do not mind paying customs if i knew item was from China/Hong Kong.

on Ebay listing UK....Seller uses Union Jack and UK STOCK In big bold lettering.

I bought a MicroSD Card from a company listing it as UK stock, picked them due to fears of a Chinese fake but when it arrived it was post marked Hong Kong. Item was the real deal so I left it at that.

Report the auction in question to eBay as being misrepresented as UK stock when it is Chinese stock. This is against eBay rules, and they can remove the listing for it. Enough reports like this and they can ban the seller.

Won't really stop them, but do it anyway.

Negative feedback would be the minimum, and if you get charged VAT you could refuse the package and file a Paypal dispute for your refund.

Happened to me too about two years ago. Got a Nokia N86 phone on eBay from a supposed UK seller, yet it arrived from Hong Kong. It had Chinese firmware, a Chinese keypad, the FM transmitter facility disabled and a box with Nokia's Asia Pacific URL on it... but did have a UK style power adapter. I debated whether to return it or not, in the end I just flashed the firmware to the EU version (which enabled all disabled features) and kept it.

Well, it's false advertising the way I see it. It can be disputed. If you paid with paypal you can go to the resourse center and setup a disputes. Then set it up as "this as a not as described item". They will contact the seller... paypal covers this as far as I know.
If you get a response make sure you answer back before 8 days are up or they find in favour of the seller. You will have to wait till it arrives in the mail though.

as a rule of thumb, any seller who uses the Union Jack colours as the background for their images is usually selling stuff from China/Hong Kong.

Can you post up a link to the item, you can check his feedback and see if others have already reported it coming from China.

I was only checking one today with union jacks all over it, but it appeared to be OK after checking.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270962894717?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

under Item location on the ebay site please note it clearly states :

Item location: United Kingdom, United Kingdom

Post to: Europe See delivery location exclusions

Sellers feedback in fairness is near perfect :
    99.2% Positive Feedback

The product is what i want but the nice people in customs will see it different that is my concern.

Looking through their negative feedback I see 7 feedbacks on the first page expressing that its not from the UK.

As said above the neg feedback has lots of complaints

If you use toolhaus.org you can see lots more feedback without having to go through each page. Since there are 100's on the page you can just search for the word "ship" and it reveals loads of complaints. I use this site to check any ones.

The price alone should warn you that this is not genuine, and not in the UK. That doesn't mean you don't have grounds for complaint, but you should have realised before ordering that something was up.

Ugh Jesus .. I wouldn't go near a spurious laptop battery, would always be worried about it burning down the house.

Nonsense. Some HK sellers may use the Union Jack, but saying that any seller that uses it is HK based is nonsense.

It is worth digging a little deeper before ordering, the same products can be bought from UK stock and delivered within a few days.

apparently real UK sellers do exist for 2-3 euro more if i looked more hard enough.
i am not concerned about the item itself.
It is advertised as Li-ion not the cheaper Li-polymer (unless that is also a lie).
We will have to wait till it arrives.

Its just i could have scrolled down more and got a genuine UK seller i bought in a hurry while at work.

No big deal ill just be more careful from now on .

    Thanks to you all.

    Same thing, li-ion/li-polymer = lithium-ion polymer

Maybe your right but wikipedia has a lot to say about battery's darn the confusion smile.gif
Oh your properly right ...I am trying not to think about battery's for awhile..
All the batterys advertised are probably all the same... :D

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_polymer_battery

from wikipedia :This type has technologically evolved from lithium-ion batteries. The primary difference is that the lithium-salt electrolyte is not held in an organic solvent but in a solid polymer composite such as polyethylene oxide or polyacrylonitrile. The advantages of Li-ion polymer over the lithium-ion design include potentially lower cost of manufacture, adaptability to a wide variety of packaging shapes, reliability, and ruggedness. Lithium-ion polymer batteries started appearing in consumer electronics around 1995.

This has ended well if not a bit weird .
